My gorgeous 8-year-old girl went to the shop for me this morning to go for my paper, she got herself up early, chose what to put on, dressed herself, made herself breakfast and cleaned her teeth, and was bursting for me to get up out of bed so she could go.
So I gave her the money, told her which papers to get and watched her across the road. She was so proud of herself as she trotted off to the end of our street and was beaming on the way back, waving and saying hello to complete strangers on the way

Not such a big deal, you might think, but she's had a terrible life so far, not going to bore everybody with the details but she's had 3 major heart surgeries and various other less major ones, and many, many visits to hospital for other afflictions in her short life so far, but has turned out to be the sweetest, best behaved and kind girl you could ever wish for.
2 years ago, she wouldn't even have had the energy to get to the shop and back, so I had a little tear in my eye as I watched her walking back towards me with my paper - I took a little pic
