We asked for a nearby within cachment area school.

We got offered an out of catchment area school, no direct bus, crappiest in the city and specialise in performing arts and getting bullied.

Been told we were not eligable for our designated secondary school

Any advice about sorting this?

Can't afford what we did with our daughter and too late in the year, also one boy is not academic enough to try.

First port of call is Why? without that Knowledge it is not possible to make an informed response...

Strangely enough I have just put down Miss Vamps offer of secondary school and transport etc, I know I am considered an 'Older Parent' but this makes me feel really old, my baby going to big school...

What is it with all this BS about choosing schools, and then ending up getting sent to the one that's 93rd on your list and requires a rather chelsea tractor to get there?

When I was a lad you went to the local school and have done with it.

I have often wondered about this myself. Pass 11+ went to Grammar, otherwise local Comp. dont know when or why it changed.Some BS about consumer choice no doubt.
People even move house just to get their kids in a certain school. House prices can rise considerably in an area if a local school has a good reputation.
The Govt. bang on about carbon footprints and congestion. A huge amount of this is due to school run traffic. It was half term here last week and my normal 40 minute journey home from work at 8am was down to less than thirty because there was so much less traffic on the roads. The difference is very marked indeed. Some of those school run mums are the most aggressive and dangerous drivers I have ever seen. They wont stop or give way for anything. I have come cery close to having several big accidents due to them pulling out in front of me.

Will be more phonecalls about it - our appeal is in.

There are 3 we will accept. Our local, one the other side of Worcester on the same bus route, or the one a long way by road but near by footpath.

Its a load of 'dangle berries'.......it means schools cant predict size requirements and scale accordingly.

How many choices did you put on the form?

If you just said the 1, and you didnt get it, then you will automatically go where there is most space.

When my kids went to secondary school, the local school was 150 yds away, but as we lived in a different county, and the border was the main road, my kids had to catch the bus to a different school!!!

How many choices did you put on the form?

If you just said the 1, and you didnt get it, then you will automatically go where there is most space.

Sue only put one as the one we wanted was undersubscribed last year.

You must appeal a friend of mine had the same situation a couple of years ago and won !!  Good luck tho

No good 'banging on' about, 'how it used to be'. Because 'it aint now'. Applied to local school of our choice, only listed the one, were refused due to oversubscription.
Appealed the decision using form on internet. Attended appeal armed with information of all the reasons I did not want my child to go to schools offered, and reasons I wanted my child at the school nominated. Won the appeal.

Only refused due to distance - only non fee paying school on a bus route from us, also the nearest school.

Appeal has been emailed already

The more robust the appeal the better chances of winning, education departments often do not want assertive fact to face meetings so he who shouts loudest wins, wrong but i have seen this work on a number of occasions albeit, to do with 'Special' schools..
