I smoke, and drink a lot, not too bothered when the smoking ban came in, in fact quiet support it, cleaner environments, non smokers get to enjoy there evenings out better, my biggest s pet hate is having to go outside the Pub to smoke, leaving your pint inside cause breaches some Pubs licencing laws, then find on your return that your pints gone walkabout because some dopey Bar person has chucked it!

Just wish they would hurry up and ban Alcohol in Public Places so I drink and smoke outside a Pub in peace.

Yup. I should'nt smoke in my cab in case a non smoking fitter has to work on it! I,ve never known a driver to be prosecuted for doing so though. Maybe the police have more constructive ways of spending thier time, they've never bothered me.

To sum up would it be fair to let Landlords decide whether they run a smoking or non smoking pub or differing bars?

I'm sure this way we could keep everyone happy without having to impose our habits/views on eachother? :y

That sounds a sensible idea ........... obviously why they didn't go along that route. In Bury town centre, before the blanket ban, there was just one pub that was a no smoking pub. This was the pub that was empty, no bugger went in.  :-? :-?

IIRC MP`s decided it was legal to smoke in bars.......as long as it`s only the "members" bar at Westminster

I believe they did look into that one, but was ruled out due to potential 'Discrimination in the Work place' ie a smoking Landlord running a Smoking Pub would probably not employ non smoking Bar Person, or the non smoker employee moaning about thier working environment.

I believe in Ireland they've back tracked a bit and have allowed so called smoking rooms in Pubs that meet a certain area or room size requirement.
