no offence vamps but why would you even use descriptive terms such as 'mainstream' or 'normal'??? :-/ :-/

No offence taken :y but, some behaviours are normal in teenagers, like grunting and not wanting to engage in meaningful conversation or even get up, and some parents of an LD teenager blame the disability, it gets complicated.... :)

Oh yes indeed, though it is a minefield and you can not generalise. :)

Its a very subjective thing imo Mike. One mans ceiling is another mans floor and all that. That's why I used inverted commas for those words. ;)
I try not to be judgmental of people...............as long as they agree with me. :y ;D ;D

Indeed, I agree.... :y  I was once told that 'normal' was the majority, in any given situation....sort of works.... ::)

I work with disabled young people, mostly Learning Disabled; in some discussions with parents you need to liken some behaviour as which would be expected of any typical 16 year old. Many parents are happy to use 'normal' as a comparison, I tend to use 'mainstream' an educational phrase as using 'non disabled', I feel, reinforces their child's 'disability'  just my take on it, not saying I am right, just wondered what you thought.... :y

that would mean we should all be Chinese muslim females if we wish to be normal  ;D

surely variety is the spice, we're not cogs in a machine that can be classed one way or the other we're all different and beautiful because of it.

man.

"Roads less travelled"..........and all that. ;)

IMHO: `perfectly acceptable to 'acknowledge' uniqueness and difference.....it`s a different matter if it were ever said to cause hurt, or to belittle or raise prejudice. :)

Parents have a responsibility to nurture their children.  That means assessing them and applying corrective input, both encouragement and discouragement.  It sounds simple at that level of analysis.

Then the parents have neighbours/relatives, not to mention hang-ups, and the competition starts.  Oh boy does it get complicated.

PS. Since the YouTube clip has been pulled I'm commenting on the way the thread has gone, not the OP.

:y  Not before time too !

I had a look at the fruitcakes 'Like or Dislike' tally last night and again a couple of minutes later and in that time the dislikes had increased by well over 1,000.
I suspect she will regret posting that clip. Someone had added her full name, address and telephone number to the comments. :o
