Started Looking at new Mobiles.
« on: 16 March 2011, 23:24:40 »

Had the usual stuff - mostly Nokia

Currently use a Nokia 6600 and Samsung Toco Lite  (Girl friend has one, when I want it sorting or upgrading just give it to her to sort)

Started looking round as she has fancied a Samsung Galaxy for a while, how ever we were both impressed by the look of my brother and his girlfrinds HTC Desire (Our kids is the HD version with the 4.3" screen)

Plus my mate and GF Daughter have the IPhone 3 which look good as well.

Seems the deciding factor is going to be the contract price and possibly stay with orange as they have itemised useage on thier web page/accounts which is usefull for us both (Unless less others do the same for free?)

Started to look up phones and options and got the choice of type of phone on one site.

So with out geting too confused, whats good and whats bad.

We both text alot, calls would be handy for us both as we are PAYG at mo.  Plus net access wont be a bad thing.

Looking for a contract of £20/25 Per month

But what the hell is the best choice from this lot.?

Texting, calls, google maps and tomtom type apps are the main thing at the mo, as we are learning more daily, just dont have the experiance of what current phones can do/ capable of - so trying to take advantage of various knowledge out there.

TIA.   :y

I told Orange I was thinking of leaving and they offered a free HTC Desire, 300 anytime cross network mins plus any extra 300 'loyalty' mins, unlimited texts, unlimited e-mail and 500 mb Tinternet for £17.50pm.
Could have had the Desire HD with the same deal for £20pm, but decided it's a bit too big for having it on my person whenever I'm out.
Only grumble with the Desire is the speaker phone is a bit 'tinny'.
If you're happy with Orange, give them a call direct, (not Carphone W/hse etc) and see what they have to offer. :y

I love technology, but have limited funds.

So my solution was to buy a HTC HD2 (the windows mobile version)
And convert it to run android.

Is a simple Rom flashing experience, no trouble.
Voila...!!

Same harware as a Desire HD, same screen, processor, everything (except the 8mp camera and 720p recording, but meh, who needs those).

All for £150 or less.
Then you can go on a sim only contract with Tmobile or any other carrier for that matter, for £20 a month and get 900 mins, unlimited Texts and Internet.
And no contract....just cancel when you want to change (30 day rolling contract)

This IMO is the best thing you could do...but hey ho, each to their own lol

why is everyone so obssessed with mobile phone features these days? i've got a blackbery which i've had for over a year, in that time i have never once taken a photo with it, never once sent an e-mail on it, indeed never even been on the internet with it, so i've now come to the conclusion that so long as it makes calls and slips into my pocket it really doesnt matter unless you're 14  :y

Ive gone through all this, but personally didnt like the onscreen keyboards....

So went for a model with a very nice slide out qwerty keyboard

sony ericcson xperia x10 mini pro, on 3 for £25 a month, with basically unlimited everything (and full itemised bills online every month)  (with £107 cashback from http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/jimbobmv6 )

Im well impressed (screen is a little small for continued internet use, but it works ok)

I have allways had Nokias, that said I believe the latest bunch from Nokia are not good. Eldest son has iphone 3g and has had problems with it. Youngest son has an HTC and has never had a single problem with it.
I believe current reliability lives with HTC and the Samsung Galaxy.

I remain cell-phone free.

I'm still trying to decide whether or not this a good thing.

People are passionate about their phones, and will say whatever they have got (or desire) must therefore be the best for everyone.

Only you can decide...

iPhone every time, jailbroken they are even better!  :-X

I've got cupboard here with about 50 phones, ranging from old Nokia 6210's to Samsung Galaxy, LG's, Sony Ericsson everything.

In terms of reliability, usability, features, iPhone wins hands down.

Its by far the best for Mobile TV streaming too, if you want Sky Sports on your phone, this is a screenshot of the quality offered....

So the only thing you've ever used your BB for .. is the one thing it's worst at? ;D (Ok, ok, I'll give credit where credit is due - the current work BB I have is alright at making calls.. but the previous two were plain awful!)

You'd have been better off with an older Nokia (like the .. 6310, was it?) - bulletproof and great at making calls.

(I still love my gayPhone, though)
