Wayne Rooney..
« on: 04 April 2011, 23:17:33 »

Someone on my Baggies site put it aptly: "genius of a player-gobsh*ite of a man". As for Shearer's comment on MOTD about letting Shrek's apology being the end of it NO!! Not good enough! In fact I expected Shearer to know better-no wonder he looked sheepish saying it! THe FA need to grow some cojones and deal with his behaviour. Hopefully it looks like a game or so banning is a possible outcome. Too many fans pay out hard earned cash to watch their teams and I find it obscene that some players -particularly from the "top" clubs -seem to think that their salary and footballing status gives them the right to behave as they do with no real fear of any consequences (eg Mr Cole etc). As for Fergusen, he may be a great manager, but his behaviour in bullying officials etc doesnt convince me that he is much better. Undoubted talent or not , there are times when I wish Shrek would come up against an old fashioned centre half if anyone remembers what I mean. Might learn him some manners....

First can i point out that i am not a fan of football (never have been)

but actions like that from a so called ambassador of the sport --come to metion it of his country
are apawling

he should be punished --but if only fined the fine should be relevant to his earnings and not just a token amount

ok rant over :y

if i was Wayne Rooney and i was getting dogs abuse 24/7 and i'd just scored a hat trick away from home to win a game my team were losing 2-0 at half time i dont know what i'd be thinking but "i must remember my p's and q's" wouldnt probably be top of the list  ;D

and if you think any multimillionaire footballers should be ambassadors or role models then you get what you deserve for being so shallow frankly  :o

No you are out of touch with the real world on this one. The guy isn't that much of a star (remember how little he contributed to us winning the last world cup) . Todays youth and middle age folk ARE influenced by the media and sporting heros etc. Traditional values seem to have gone. So it is important that the "stars" actually behave properly as like it or not they are role models.

A big fine isn't enough, he should have some form of electric shock treatment or stick with his day job helping guy build his boat.

as an impartial observer I'd say Wayne Rooney is close to world class and easily the best English player of his generation - the fact that your keeper dropped a clanger, allowed the USA to equalise meant England didn't secure the expected top spot in the group, hence they played Germany instead of Ghana (was it?) yes he's highly rewarded for his skills - many people in other walks of life (showbiz, banking) are well paid and arent expected to act as role models, personally i dont think WR owes anyone anything and if it wasnt for his sublime talent - a talent that he is indeed lucky that its a highly paid skill that few on the planet can do as well as him, then not one of you would give him so much as a penny (those of you who know liverpool and the area he comes from - when was the last time an mp visited there, or a bank invested money there? i doubt theres anything but carry outs pubs and bookies in that estate) so no, he isnt a role model - do you blame him? why dont the people who bleat about him being a role model ask yourself why a kid looks up to wayne rooney more than their parents  :o

for me banjax youre missing the point I wanted to make. Re all the stuff about "role models" I tend to disagree that they are or even should be. He -like many "celebs" -dont want to be role models, its something others foist upon them. For eg I remember Noel Gallagher talking about it. I mean, in their day, Oasis were a bloody good band and sure they wanted to make money and be famous and all that but they also wanted to be thought of as a good band who made good music (anyone worth anything has to have an element of professional conceit about what they do) so why should they change and pretend that they dont swear/drink/smoke/take drugs? Remember Mccartney's admission of taking LSD? Quite rightly he put the publicising of that back into the court of the journalists. He wasnt going to lie about it but it was up to them, if the journalists really thought that publishing it would encourage Beatle fans to take acid then they shouldnt publish it. They did because it was a story and they had no moral claims to make. To a degree its about integrity and honesty-just dont pretend to ber something youre not just because its the wrong PR "image". What I have against Rooney-and others-isnt that he should behave better because he is a role model, but because it shows lack of common manners and respect. Just because someone has come from an impoverished background and through whatever means now earns more than you or me could ever dream of doesnt mean that he/she shouldnt mind their mouth!Cyrille Regis makes the point in his autobiography about the role that people in the club have to play in assisting young players with this transition. Obviously Fergie is not the man in this regard.

fair enough jerry but witness the reaction to most people when you mention Wayne Rooney - its "shrek" this "fat" that "ugly" "granny shagger" etc so he'd have to be a saint to behave and not want to ram it down everyones throat, he takes a lot of crap much like David Beckham did when the whole of England blamed him for the failure to win the world cup..........he was treated worse than a murderer or rapist by the media so forgive WR if he doesnt play the medias game and be polite  :y

fk em - i agree with him  ;)
