I must admit that Salmond is impressive - as a politician, and he seems to be managing the fortunes of the SNP well.

However I would suggest that the (anticipated) losses by the Liberals were due to the associative link with the Tories in their coalition pact, rather than a new dawn for SNP policies.

Insofar as independence for the Nation is concerned, is there really an appetite for this in a substantial majority of the people there?   To work properly there would need to be so in my view.

I’m also wondering whether or not this would be full independence having border controls, separate foreign, domestic and security policies and full control of and responsibility for revenues and tax raising.

If the Scots vote for independence then they should imo have complete independence including all of the above Den.
The days of everyone having their cake and eating it need to draw to a close imo. ;)

I have no difficulty with independence and would indeed live in an independent Scotland – with pleasure – providing there was a substantial number of people there behind it.

The notion of true independence may well be a moot point within the context of the EU of course, for any nation subscribing to the EU club can never really maintain their independence – as the people (not the politicians) of the Republic of Ireland discovered over the recent past.

I think it would be a very sad day in the history of Great Britain if the constituent parts wanted or indeed gained independence. However if they did gain independence then the first job would be to rebuild Hadrians Wall. They would soon change their tune on free healthcare, prescriptions, tuition fees and so on.

Then they could be let back into the union. There would have to then be some symbolic bloodletting - Salmond would be exiled to Tristan Da Cunha, Holyrood would have to become a tourist attraction and there would be a one off tax of say £1000 on everyone living in Scotland.  ;D ;D

That was just a round figure. I would expect employers to pay it for most of their workers. Those in hardship could have a loan at say 35% payable off over five years. None payers would help with rebuilding Hadrians Wall. :y

I don't think we'll see independence anytime soon, most people are content with devolution for now, maybe increasing in powers, but we're very intricately linked and entwined Scotland and the rest of the UK - whats alarming for Labour is Scotland isn't the guaranteed block vote for them it has been, although in a general election for westminster seats, Labour would get much more support in Scotland as SNP dont stand  :y

After hearing Salmand being interviewed this morning, I quickly came to th conclusion that the last thing he wants is Scottish independence - he just darent say so. What a cock that bloke is.
