caravan club question
« on: 22 May 2011, 22:30:48 »

Hi peeps, i was told today that sites which are affiliated to the caravan club don't allow non caravan club members there. Is that right? If so how do i know if they are affiliated to the caravan club? How much is it to join the caravan club?

I'm insured to pull my caravan. Is it normal to take out 3rd party insurance on your caravan incase it burns down and damages someone elses van etc? Do some sights request to see this insurance and if you doon't have it do they refuse you access?

Thanks peeps, I'm new to caravanning  :y

There are some CC Exclusive sites ;)

Not sure.. £40/year rings a bell :-/

Caravan insurance isn't a requirement but is recommended ;) :y

All sounds a bit cliquey to me.. I'd get a tent instead.  ;)

Thanks LD, but do they refuse you access if you don't have it. My van was only £150 so probably not worth getting insurance for it.

Caravan Club own a lot of sites, to use htem you need to be a member.

They also have a registration system for small sites called CLs, 5 caravan sites, all over the country, 1000s of them.

If you use them regularly joining CC for the CLs is very useful.

BTW there are 100s of non affiliated sites as well

Stayed at Scotgate many a time..

Not used it since it went 'upmarket' a few years ago though.

Yeah I know what you mean Jimbob. I rode past when doing the coast to coast, I had a look in and it looked that way! I prefer the more 'rough' site, for want of a better word.

We joined and found it was money well spent.

We actually lived in our caravan in between looking for a house to buy in either France or Spain.

We had a gas bottle problem whilst abroad and contacted the club and got excellent advice which got us out of a no cooking scenario.

What clinched it for us was the discounts on ferries booked through them. The price was truly unbeatable.

We only stayed at one club site and that was at West Ayton near Scarborough. We found it excellent. :y

the midgies - they'll drive you nuts if you let 'em          - i think even the army uses avon skin so soft - for some reason it keeps them at bay :y  :o

I'm also new to caravanning...sort of. I've never stayed on a site for a caravan holiday, mine was bought for OOF & Classic car meets, so cannot advise on this one.

That said when i do go out i really enjoy spending time in my little home from home! :y

Enjoy.

I love caravanning, running hot and cold water, heating if it gets cold, no need to worry if it's going to blow away when the wind gets up, keeps you dry and cosy if i's raining, you're own bog, shower with plenty of room to dry yourself and get dressed.

It might add 1/2 hour to a 200 mile journey towing one, but hey, who cares.

The best part though, is holding up boy racers on 'B' class roads :y
