I reckon take it to an engineering shop and slip them a tenner to thread it in their lunch hour. Roe engineering in Fleet worth a call? Probably plenty of options closer to you, though. Failing that, AHC in Camberley would be a good bet. Take it along and they'll at least tell you what it is and possibly sell you a tap.

I have a UNF tap and die set, BTW. Goes up to 1/2-20 but doesn't sound like it'll help?

Sounds like a plan Kevin.  I think you're right about the 1/4 nptf.  I'll give them both a try tomorrow  :y

Are you around Sunday for me to return your kit?

Trust me, I spent many an hour rumaging but as this was a tapered thread it is different.  If a LR has any it comes as parts of a replacement part thus difficult to pinch.... in fact its impossible due to the new fault reporting system.

I also have got the seagull working now so once i have this and a couple more modifications done she'll be ready to get slapped on the back of Jenny  :y

Only knew that because we were working next door to the fire station last September and needed a 6" core drill, at least that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it  :)

I know they have a branch in Farnham. Has the Camberley one gone?

Oh, well, I have no reasons to visit my old home town now. And, actually, that suits me fine. ;D
