I got a DS,  and all I have ever played on it is Brain Training and WWTBAM.
It has resided in drawer for past 18 months, unloved.
Also got a full compliment here of other consoles, XBOX, XBOX360, PS1 PS2 PS3, Super Nintendo, which I love playing as it's my era.
Hehehehehehe

Di,

Super Nintendo was my era and I am 39 now, if you mid 50s (as you have hinted) then surely you are more Binatone or Grandstand....?

Dy'LL...  Grandstand used to be cutting edge back in the early 80's...  :-/  I don't know if it is a good or bad thing to be able remember them or remember wanting one (Asteroid or Space Invader Console)....

Of the hand helds available nowadays, go with the DS field...

I had a psp for keeping awake at night when i was at work and i found it very good for games......The lad has a DS and he takes it with him everywhere when we go out for the day and he uses a lot of the educational games that you can get...So i suppose for a little un a DS is the way to go... :y

DS for little ones, lots of simple pet games, as they get older the PSP is very good, some big franchises on it such as God of War, Motorstorm, Rachet & Clank, Assassins Creed

Sadly no is the answer to that

Never really took off in the UK, PlayStation won that little battle

 :y

Dreamcast was way better than the playstation2 - stable online gaming before any other console had even thought of it (and it was free - sadly the servers down now) graphically superior to the ps2 in every way and some fantastic arcade games - i had both and the sega machine was lightyears ahead - the old Betamax/VHS story, better tech pushed out by better marketing, killed off sega as a hardware company - sad because they really understood what makes a great console - just no one bought it :(

ds for youngens, psp for big kids  ::) esp if you have ps3 as it will link to it wirelessly via web. But if you dont want him to progress to ps3, Ds only imo.

I bought one! Great console, although it did have a few gimmicks (like those memory cards that were supposed to be little hand held games in their own right, in which the battery lasted about 5 minutes..)

I do like to buy dead-end tech, though.. bought the DreamCast, that killed it. Bought the GameCube, that killed it. ..

I have a PSP for mobile gaming - it was great.. I just haven't turned it on in about two years  :-[ I'm very tempted by the new version that's coming out, though!

(Also have a PS3, 360 & Wii.. none of which get turned on with any kind of regularity)

No just that between DS and Pokemon game and PSP and Motorstorm - I'd rather do the racing game rather than the fighting cuddly toy game
