In UK I would have thought Automatic at least if you are with Orange/T Mobile.

The usual issue is not the network selection but the mode i.e. in some areas you are better off with GSM selected as opposed to Dual or UTMS (3G). You generally get a good signal more often than not with GSM  but obviously this restricts the data side of things

in wandsworth today i had no signal for the internet so i switched to 3gs and i got a strong signal, but when i left the area it dissapeared. i was choppin and changin depending on the areas. so wondered whats best to keep it on

Don't know what phone you have ... but this might interest you if you have an HTC.. .. the article is about the Legend .. but works on all the HTC's I've known. Certainly on both SWMBO Legend and my Desire it increases battery life and improves data reliability

ive got the new samsung galaxy s 2, great phone but the battery doent last a day so will have to get another

sorry, im on 3 network by the way and the signal is so much better on my samsung omnia lite than this new one.i never get a problem with that one at all.

Normally Automatic is best...

But strangely....one of our old phones on 3 wouldnt work in Keswick on auto, had to be set to manual to get a signal....very strange!

I thought that the auto was always the best but now I will try to alter them and see what happens. Does it not incur any extra charges though?

Generally auto.

3G v GSM, depends on network, esp if the phone has been branded by the operator, esp if its on 3 (who don't run a GSM network).  Often force to GSM on these networks will result in better voice capability.

ive got it set on 3gs at the moment so will just change if i need to i think. one thing is the gps on this is absolutely brilliant

My daughter has the S2 and her battery makes it through the day quite easily, even though she never puts it down.

Switch off GPS at the very least, and disable Bluetooth unless you are actually using it (same goes for Wi-Fi).

ive done those martian, i've been looking at batterys on amazon and can get a 2600mah for 9.99  or a 3.7 lion,which i already have now so which one would be the best to get?

The standard battery (the one you have now) is rated at 1650mAh, so the 2600mAh will be the "high capacity" version.
