Samsung Cameras - rubbish or what?

I bought 2 Samsungs at the end of 2009 for family members presents. ST550 and St 50. Both now out of warranty and giving screen faults amongst other things. Tried to get a service manual out of Samsung as there is no way these can be sent for repair on a cost effective basis. All I want is the info to open the camera and try new screens. Samsung so far not playing ball.

My digital Sony and Konica Minolta stuff from years ago still working fine and never given any trouble.

Buy Samsung at your peril I think.

when it comes to cameras....I like to stick to 'traditional' camera companies...

Canon / Nikon 1st of all
then most the others.
only then the electronics companies playing with cameras

only had sony cameras recently which have all been pretty good for the money and not being specialist.
i have lots of other samsung stuff tho and never had a problem with any of it, 4 tvs kitchen stuff, suround sound, i think even my washing machine is samsung, although that needs replacing now!

Stills Nikon, Canon

Video Sony, Canon, Panasonic

Note that most decent cameras are from those 2 mainly Nikon.

Most professional video cameras are from the above 3 or parts of (eg Canon lenses on other bodies), eg Sony semi pro kit is excellent - just can't afford it (£2500 for HDV) however just about HD broadcast quality.

Some feature films were shot on Canon DV cameras!

Keep to these rules and you should be OK

id like to invest in a decent camera, from  nikon or canon. would love to be able to take great pics, dont seem to be able to get on with my sony camera take better pics on my sony arc mobile lol
I done a mates wedding with my sony camcorder and used the editing function came out pretty good!

Consider this. It was Panasonic and Sony who developed the technology in the first place and all other manufactures only use the technology under licence but with their own modifications that do not always work.
Stick the the originals and you will have better luck. My video imaging gear is all either Panasonic, Sony or the latest one I have is a JVC and that works perfectly up to now. My favourite still camera is an Olympus which is still going strong and has never let me down. :y

Yes I made a mistake with Samsung.

My camcorder and other family compact cameras are Sony

TV is a plasma Panasonic and still going strong.

Wife's camera is a Lumix Panasonic also excellent
