What? It does! Ever tried searching for something using the boards engine rather than Google? Takes forever!

GS forum runs on vBulletin, you can search threads dating back over a decade in seconds, Yabb strugges searching a few days  :-/

vBulletin has a so-so search.  Its just YaBB's is poorer than useless

do we have to port everything? Can we just not 'archive' current posts into a not post-able format, leave just for searching?

Start fresh with new board, on the recently new hardware, rather than trying to ram a 2ton square peg into a round hole? By getting Yabb to convert which looks and get impression a bit of a mission.

After all how often do we go past page 2 on boards?

Things like guides will need to be looked at, to be brought into new pages, which I don't mind giving time up to 'migrate' them.

BTW, vBulletin is not on the list of possible replacements any more.  It was only tested to shut up a certain Welsh admin 

It falls over on a key function, unless we extensively modify it, which we wouldn't:
a) because its unclear from their licence if we can modify the underlying code
b) its a major task to do simple updates.

vB will not be used for OOF. It doesn't work. End of discussion for vB.

But I see what you're getting at if we do migrate, but think a native import will always work better. We will have to leave the old YaBB up though, as we have too many incoming links to specific pages, not least from search engines.

I have mixed feelings on the subject of the for sale section.
I cant deny I have done well out of it in recent months, but there can be a whole load of aggro involved as well.
From a sellers perspective - most people you sell to are a pleasure to deal with, probably about two thirds of them imo.
There are some though who seem to think that transactions on here shouldnt be business like, normal accepted rules of buying/selling dont apply. If its £50 at a scrappy they want it for a tenner, and are deeply offended if you want £25. Think you are ripping of a fellow member etc.
Some folks dont seem to appreciate the amount of time and effort that goes into removing parts, packaging the parts and organising delivery etc.
From a buyers perspective, I personally dont feel comfortable about complaining when something is obviously sub standard when it arrives as it could start a big argument on the forum, whereas on ebay for example I would feel free to leave negative feedback.

Have to agree on all points Albs. Personally speaking if I list any part/s here the price is lower than what I ask for on the bay, and everything is always open to offers. One of the annoying aspects is when you`re asked for certain item/s then your PM`s get ignored. C`est la vie 8-)

Yep - I have replied to threads where someone has asked for a part urgently and offered to send it off next morning,they dont even have the courtesy to reply. I just assume they already found one from another source. Not good manners imo.
