Smoothomega off to Oz
« on: 04 August 2011, 16:05:56 »

Hi guy's and gal's, it's been a long while since i have contributed to this great forum, too long, anyway to those of you who remember me and to those who don't i thought i would tell you a bit about what has been going on in my life.

For the last eighteen months i have been working tirelessly on trying to obtain a visa for Australia and am extremely proud and chuffed  to announce that i have been granted my 176 SS Permanent residency visa, so that's it, i'm free to go whenever i want, all being well that will be in January after spending Christmas here with the folks.

Between now and then i have so much to sort out, it's not till you stop and look do you realise just how much you accumulate over the years, so i can see lots of egay activity and car boot sales on the horizon, i have to whittle it all down so what remains will fit in a 20ft container along with my MG, sadly there will be no room for my beloved Omega so she will have to go nearer the time, however i do feel a purchase of a Aussie mig when i get there  ;D so it's not all bad news i guess.

It's great to log on here and see so many old faces still around and so many new ones too, now i have a bit more time i will try and keep in touch with you all a little more regularly.

Right, off to do more sorting out, the container leaves in mid October so lots to do between now and then.

Cheers

Jez

Excellent news. Best wishes for your new life. We took a lot of our "stuff" with us and after eight years some still hasn't even been unpacked. My advice would be to ditch stuff unless it has special value/meaning.

I have fond memories of pints of real ale in the Wheatsheaf  at Woodhouse Eaves and also meals at a place more near the centre. Real Ale! Only a distant memory sadly.

Think of all those V8 cars in Oz! :y :y

Still a great pint of real ale to be had there and hasn't changed that much if at all, thats my Sunday afternoon stroll to the Wheatsheaf  :y Other pubs you may remember are the Curzon Arms, the Bulls Head and the Pear Tree  :y

I know what you mean about ditching a load of stuff, i am using this as a good excuse to get rid of stuff i never use so as you said, only sentimental stuff will be going along with all my tools and i think that's about it

Congratulations Jez :y, something I've always wanted to do but as you well know, it's not easy getting that permit. Too late for me now I fear, but hope it all goes well for you - I'm sure you'll love it. 8-) Bet you won't miss our wonderful weather and the good old British winter. ::)

Thats the one! You will soon be drinking Fosters Lager and forget what proper beer is. You have to make some sacrifices in life (apparently). ;D ;D

Whoops, just spent a few minutes reminiscing the first Lakesmeet pics. That really was back in the day old school stuff...mine was the one with a foglight out!!!

I've thought at times about Oz. Many countries want HGV drivers but as with Canada i've heard the hours are even longer than they are here & i could never leave my little house now but all the best matey, i hope your new life is an adventure & a success. I'm sure we all look forward to some piccies but don't you dare get a Monaro before me!!!

Take care & stay in touch, Guy. :y

Best of luck! :y

About 4 or 5 years ago SWMBO and I were looking into it. Emailed about her qualification and was offered a telephone interview 24 hours later for the Head of Services in a hospital :o :o There were actually 3 jobs available in Oz and 2 in NZ. Both countries would have agreed full Visa's for both of us and I didn't even need to apply for a job!

Unfortunately, after a lot of thought and soul searching she decided that leaving her family wasn't an option :'( We're all very close and it's rare that we don't see either her parents of sister at least 5 times a week, even if just for a cuppa :y

A shame, but understandable :( ;)
