Xbox heat sinc repair, alcohol alternative?
« on: 26 August 2011, 15:24:16 »

Heat sinc paste on the chips on the board have to be cleaned off before the new paste can be applied. Best to use alcohol but I don't have any...I do have  citrus based cleaner

...guessing brake cleaner, or anything petro chemical based is out.

Any suggestions?

Don't have either of those. White spirit is closest but can't see that being good for chips

Picked a bit of paste off and tried the citrus cleaner on it. Won't touch it. Doesn't brake it down at all.   :-/

Brake cleaner might be worth a try, as it won't leave a residue. Don't just hose the thing down with it, though. Spray a little onto a rag and rub the top of the chip with that. ;)
