Thing is, was this an overall figure?
If you have high LDL it's not so bad as high HDL, there is a difference. I was checked on the rig by the medic with a finger prick test, he said 'ooooooh that's a bit high' It was 7.1.
Went to the quacks after a 24 hour fast for a proper test.
They give you the results with LDL and HDL separate so you get a real idea if your doing yourself harm or not.
My lifestyle then and now included the odd 4 mile run, about once a week, a lot of mountain biking (then) not so much now (too bloody hot in the summer) plenty of long beach/promenade walks (now) swimming and a relatively stress free job. So after the initial scare was told by the nurse that I'm doing just fine.
I have since cut down on beer but upped the red wine intake, well, in Spain, it's a must.
Go back for a proper test with a 24 hour fast before and see what the results are, I think and hope you will be pleasantly surprised, above all don't panic and remember if you take statins you will NOT be able to sunbathe on holiday, really sensitive skin from the pills.
