What hole would that be then Andy?

PS

Just checked the specs, seems Pete is at least 20 BHP out...and not in his favour either  ;D

Well i don't know what specs you have KW, but it ain't for the 2.2DTi

Actually 20 more than standard ;) The DTi's not renowned for it's power output.

He has special specs, no doubt he will mention his 2,000 bhp bike in his reply  ::)  ;D

Its all about torque with the 2.2 DTi, bhp means nothing really.

Power to weight ratio has a fair old say as well  ;)

So do wheels size, aerodynamics, fuel, tyre pressures, final drive ratios..... the list goes on.

We were talking about power from engines here.  :)

Are you saying the claimed power figures from the manufacturers are taken from the flywheel rather than the driven wheels?  :o :o

That's been quite extensively developed, if it's even based on the same engine. No cam belt, for a start. Not a surprise as a setup like the standard one with great long flappy runs of spring-tensioned rubber belt would make a bit of a mess at 12K RPM IMHO. That lump has certainly had some cash thrown at it. Web site confused me a bit because you click on the GM engine and it morphs into a Ferrari V12. I'm off to the garage to try it on my Y32SE. ;D

Other way round. BHP is what it's all about. Different torque delivery will make an engine feel fast (or slow) but BHP (or power to weight as KW rightly points out) and having a gearbox that suits the torque delivery is what matters in turning out performance.

Put another way: A 2.2DTi has 280Nm of torque. So does a 3.2 V6 (near as makes no odds). Do we need a drag race?

Exactly the same as every other 3.2 V6. Police spec Omegas had no more power than retail, they had a bigger alternator to run all their toys, and a different diff ratio which aided 0-60 at the expense of top end speed. Also they had some heavy duty shocks

But with the diesels, some engines have more bhp than others, but less torque, and are slower, more so into the 40-80 zone  :-/ Which is why i thought it was always imporant to see what kind of torque the engine made rather than bhp  :-/

Its about getting a good match between the power source and the vehicle. Big heavy vehicles (like Omegas) are easier to drive with an engine that has lots of torque.
A lighter vehicle might be a lot better suited by a higher revving (but lower torque) engine.
