I've got one.
The inlet manifold is water heated and can fail .Symptoms are usually the engine missfires when started up. I changed the HG about a year ago as a precautionary measure and fitted all the neccesary updates. So far all is well ,although the petrol pump failed recently and that cost over €450 for the pump alone.......
The K series is generally a weak engine and all it's problems are well documented .Interestingly enough I see that the new MG announced a month ago will be powered by a K series again. The Chinese bought the rights to the engine too.
Generally the only way to ascertain if the HG has gone is to have a sniffer test done on the expansion tank contents.
They are lovely cars to drive but EVERY time I'm in it I'm listening for every strange sound and talking myself into hugely expensive repairs when I do hear something.
A bit of a love /hate type of car really.
I wish you good luck with it , really .
Don
