That reminds me - I've got the rear subframe of one of these dumped in my back garden somewhere. Must chop it into less-suspicious sized bits and take it to the tip. ::)

Kevin

You've just reminded me I've got a strut off an Scorpio still sat in my shed. I was trying to get the ABS sensor out a couple of years ago.

The only thing I liked about the 2.9 scorpio that I used to valet for a guy was seeing it leave, I thought the were bloody ugly things.

Not too bad to drive, loved to sumptuous soft leather interior. But fugly.

Used to clean that and a brand new 24v senator every saturday morming, and yes you guesed it.  I fell in love with the senator.  ;) :y

Great cars indeed.  :y

Intrestingly the Granada was offered in the States, however the Americans found it ugly and we don't, whereas we find the Scorpio ugly but the Americans don't.  ::)

Senny!! I think to a point Ford had it all to themselves in the 70s, what with the Professionals / Sweeney all adding to the image. But come late 80s/90s, I really think the Luton (or Russelsheim) product was just better.

If your looking for something to put in the garage and just wheel it out to polish and drive occasionaly then buy it - on the other hand if your looking for a day to day car then put the money towards something newer and parts are easier to get - a late 3.2 Elite for instance ;)

I agree, but try finding a 3.2 Elite, Rocking Horse Sh** and Hen's Teeth spring to mind.

I had 4 scorpios - 1985, 1989, 1993, 1995 alongside a VX Carlton Estate 1990 - 1992 and others. When you come across something which reminds you of some very good times and you owned a version thereof then it is pretty tempting if you have the time and money and storage to pick up something like this.

If someone in the know values it at £1000 then you start from there and only increase to reflect your desire to own it knowing that this element of the price will probably not be recovered on a future resale. If you keep it a few years then premium paid becomes insignificant.

It'll never be worth great money. A lot of these were broken for the engine which some people shoehorn into Capris. However, when did you last see one on the road? Monetary value is one thing, collectable 'oh, I had one of those' is another. I have a 1983 Chevy Camaro in the garage. It has a custom paint job, custom interior and its one of only a handful of crossfires left in the world with the cowl induction hood and early bumpers. Worth a lot? No, Collectable? rare? definitely!

Back in the EF reg are I delivered a Carlton to replace a C reg Granada both were similar spec.

Carlton was a hell of a lot nicer drive, definately a better handler (twisty A road to the customer)
