I assume it's a 1998 MV6 as per your profile?
Is it a saloon, estate, manual/auto 2.5 or 3.0?
How many miles had it done?
I'd always say push for more, but we need a few more details on the car so we know how to value it  :y

Always push for more - say up to £1,000 - before you accept the first offer.

I did, and sure enough secured another £150. ;) ;)

Always turn down the first offer the worst they can say is nothing more to offer but they put in a low amount just to see if you would bite, it is a quick way for the insurance company to close a case and make more money for the shareholders. If they won't offer anything higher ask them to provide you with a similar car for the money they have offered you and see how they get on! I hope your no claims is unaffected as it was not your fault and you have claimed your excess from the other driver.

you were lucky - my Carlton was hit by a Mercedes back in April while it was parked and smashed my headlight - they accepted the blame then changed their story, costing me my entire no claims bonus... >:(

...apparently if you have a crash you must have a witness  :(
