Bogus history!

Shock horror!

The new corsa I bought a couple of weeks back has a bogus service history. Well, I sought of guessed that by the fact that I asked when the cambelt was last changed and they checked the history, which said it had been done at 70k. (car is on 103k).  Car has a timing chain!

Log book came back Thursday so I wrote to the previous woner (who bought it new) and asked about the history. He did all the servicing himself after the first one. He has never heard of the garage who supposely serviced it twice whilst he owned the car.

He part ex'd the car and the main agent chucked it into the BCA auctions at Peterborough. I bought it from a dealer in Peterborough. The dealer advertised the car with 'full service history, mot to May 2008 and adjustable steering column' amogst many other things. All the above are false. The MoT is until January, the steering is not adjustable and the History is ficticious.

So, now I have them by the bow locks. I spoke with the dealer today. He claims some sob story about a former partner who is now in eastern europe, blah blah. Not interested. Trade desciptions and false advertising spring to mind. The car needs new wishbones, drop links, 3 wheel bearings and track rod ends. I told the dealer that I am happy for them to make me a sensible offer to forget about this descrpancy, or I can just hand it to trading standards. They are coming back to me tomorrow with an offer. I won't take less than £500.

Interesting though huh?

The corsa is the kind of car a young girl might buy as her first car. Imagine the grief this could have caused someone who didn't know what you know Fin. I would demand a full refund, something for my trouble and report the b@stard anyway >:(

I think keeping a spreadsheet of work done, dates and mileages for work done with receipts will carry more weight than any number of stamps in the service book which as we can see are easily forged.

Nowt wrong with that  :y

Local garage i use stamped my merc service book for me.......for umm 75k miles worth of servicing in one go just before i sold it.....they had done all the oil changes and work on it during this time so i carnt see anything wrong with that.

Stamping a service book when its not been to a garage......or a different garage stamp is imo wrong!

I dont think Ron wants his money back......from recall it was pretty cheap anyway....plus those jobs are easy peasy for Ron......plus its about to get even cheaper  :y ;D

True but a pile of receipts especially with reg no. on em over the period of ownership is a bit more challenging.

Talking of clocking.....my veccyB could do with a mileage reduction.....a tech2 must be able to do that......85k would be better that the 208k currently on it......i'll bring a case of Stella   ;)

NO......oh.....ok then you drive a hard bargain....2 cases of Stella then   ;)

Only joking  ;D ......it will be for sale shortly......but with the correct mileage on it  :y

Oh yes, I am keeping the car alright. Nothing wrong with it other tahn the above and a normal oil/filters jobber. But I do want £500 minimum bacck. yes, I knowcked £400 off the already low price in the first place. But all the same.

Bottom line:

Car with 30k would be £6,500
Car with £103k worth about £4,500
I paid £3150
If I get another £500 back, that will be a good price in the end.
