Shock horror!
The new corsa I bought a couple of weeks back has a bogus service history. Well, I sought of guessed that by the fact that I asked when the cambelt was last changed and they checked the history, which said it had been done at 70k. (car is on 103k). Car has a timing chain!
Log book came back Thursday so I wrote to the previous woner (who bought it new) and asked about the history. He did all the servicing himself after the first one. He has never heard of the garage who supposely serviced it twice whilst he owned the car.
He part ex'd the car and the main agent chucked it into the BCA auctions at Peterborough. I bought it from a dealer in Peterborough. The dealer advertised the car with 'full service history, mot to May 2008 and adjustable steering column' amogst many other things. All the above are false. The MoT is until January, the steering is not adjustable and the History is ficticious.
So, now I have them by the bow locks. I spoke with the dealer today. He claims some sob story about a former partner who is now in eastern europe, blah blah. Not interested. Trade desciptions and false advertising spring to mind. The car needs new wishbones, drop links, 3 wheel bearings and track rod ends. I told the dealer that I am happy for them to make me a sensible offer to forget about this descrpancy, or I can just hand it to trading standards. They are coming back to me tomorrow with an offer. I won't take less than £500.
Interesting though huh?
