Oil siphon ??

Does anyone have any experience of these manual oil siphon pumps used to suck oil out of the dipstick pipe?

They are available fairly cheaply on ebay.

I'm thinking of doing a "fluid only" oil change on my company car as I don't think its right that the oil should last for 22k on a diesel before being changed.

Even changing it @ 10k is a lot longer than I'd like - but will be better than the full 22k being suggested by the car.

I was going to use GM semi synth - that should be ok shouldn't it in a Citroen C5 2.0 Hdi?

your call rob but personally i couldnt bother but if you must then just jack it up and dump it out of the sump  :y

He probably doesn't have the correct tool for the plug. French cars are different to the norm. All the ones i've worked on are anyway :(

why fluid only, drain the sump and stick a new filter on too....

If its a company car either get it changed at recommended service intervals or take it into a garage for an interim oil change and charge the cost on expenses  :-? :-? :-?

I dont agree with oil lasting 22k miles, so my reasons for changing the oil only are as follows:

1) There is a massive underengine tray to be removed

2) New cars are often fitted with a "marked" filter so that the dealer can tell if the filter is original. Wen it gets its first service at 22k at a dealership they would be able to tell of the filter had been changed - which may cause then to get ar*ey sbout it. Vauxhall did this  - orginal factory fitted filters were black.

3) It should be quick & easy to suck the oil out & then to pour in the same quantity of GM semi synth

4) Changing the oil only is bettr than no change at all I think.

So, thats my logic guys

Because I spend several hours a day driving it and treat it like it's mine - that's why. I've done 10k in the car in 3 months.

I change the oil in the Omega every 3k & SWMBO's car mid way between services also.

If I was going to get it done by a dealer then I wouldnt bother TBH as the cost would be high, but as i've got a plentiful supply of good quality GM oil then surely it can only do good tor very little £.

Anyway, the point of my OP was for peoples experience of using siphon pumps rather than WHY I want to do it.

I can see where you're coming from Robert. 22,000 is a massive amount between changes.
If i had a company vehicle i'd wana look after it too.
All the vans/trucks i've driven in the past have always had fluid level checks before the journey despite my colleagues comments of "it'll be fine just jump in & drive it" >:(

I'll let you know in a day or two when I've done an oil cahnge on SWMBO's Smart ..... it doesn't have a drain plug!  :-?  :-?  :-? I bought a litre one from Machine Mart.

I have the singing / dancing extraction pump from Pela. It's ace.

But... doesn't beat taking the sump plug out.

Company car? Rag it... blow it up.. get a new one  :D :y

Was the engine designer on the bog or something when they designed the oil sump? :-/  ;D

Worth making your own, take the sump off and put your own plug on?
