oil burning piece of junk !!!!
« on: 06 July 2010, 23:05:29 »

BoB is rapidly out living his welcome. im sick and tired of spending £50 repair bill each month to stop the cantankerous old pig from blowing his nearside rockerbox gasket !!! im rapidly beginging to blow mine, ive been told that the cheap cardboard sorry plastic covers that are fitted warp as they get older and that a certain modification will work.the mod being the fitment of the metal type that are fitted to v6 vectras.
has anyone out there made this mod? does it work? and before i get the usual " clear the breathers etc " this has been done, the engine isnt breathing so no pressure is building either.im about at the end of my tether ,i love the car but at this rate i will have spent enough on the old git to have bought another omega !!its his last chance before he gets the BIG BOOT !! can any body help please? also if this mod does work , does anybody know where i can get a pair of vectra covers please? ps i havnt got enough posts so cant ask on the wanted collumn...id probably only get laughed at or sarky comments . :-/ vectra ??? vectra ??? whats one of those??? >:( ::)

Not an answer to your initial question, but post a Wanted thread in the TEST section, and it will b moved by a Mod to the relevant section.  :y

The vectra covers will work .. BUT , big BUT, if the breathers block they will NOT act as a "pressure relief" .. the crank seal will... mega expensive fix.

IF, big IF, you are convinced your cam covers are warped .. and that is very much an urban myth ... then get a set of replacement Omega ones from  abreaker and fit them with genuine VX seals at the correct torque - which is, in some ways, the most important part of the job.

this has been done mate it was done four weeks ago with a 2nd hand cover .tonite i drove home pulled into my close and it looked like the annual bonfire party again, im begging to get a little down hearted about it all.lovely car, economical, comfy ,fast as the preverbial but this recurring problem is getting beyond a joke . i was asked to leave a petrol forecourt the other week because the plonker at the checkout was certain it was on fire ...

sit down shut up and listen????? i saw that post and i guess thats what i should expect????it has been removed but i didnt see whod wrote it,someone from york i believe .i asked a question but didnt expect to be answered in such a rude manner .
sorry about that Entwood ,the breathers have been cleaned , by a qualified vauxhall fitter who knows the car inside out so its not the breathers at fault .the cover that was replaced a few weeks ago turned out to have a hairline crack in it.

If the cover is cracked, replace it with a known good one - not vectra, but one from an Omega.

If the covers are leaking, its either wrong/non gen cover gaskets fitted or blocked breathers.

If you fit metal covers and genuine gaskets then, if the fault is as supposed, blocked breathers, you will ultimately blow a crankshaft oil seal as this is the next most vulnerable point in the pressure chain.

Its harder to change a crankshaft seal than a set of rocker gaskets....

I obviously missed a post somewhere ... :(

However ..if the covers have "just" been replaced .. I'm inclined to wonder if the seals went on properly ??  The right sealant in the right places is pretty important .. and the first time I did the covers I managed to just dislodge the passenger side as I fitted it .. only found out when I started it and oil went everywhere .. so cover back off again.

Is it worth a good clean down than run the engine and try and see which gasket is leaking from where ?? . If genuine gaskets they should be ok to reuse in such a short time. Then just redo that side ???

That was me, and it was in jest - but removed as Entwood replied more or less exactly what I had typed and hit the button a second or two before I posted.
Didn't mean to cause offence, just trying to lighten the mood! :y Apologies if any offence caused - certainly wasn't meant!

It is a nuisance when you spend your hard earned on your car only for it to throw it back in your face - my Carlton does that on a weekly basis!!!
I had a similar leak start on my car, but because of my back, had to get Darth Loo Knee to sort it - and it's fine now!

replaced mine with Vectra cam covers about 3-4 years ago as i couldn't find plastic ones to replace warped covers, only meant to use them until i could find some originals but never got round to it. Oil is changed regularly & breathers kept clean & never had any problems with them since, but oil filler neck is now on drivers side at the rear

And plug leads dont fit properly......

I am not a fan.....good parts, original (undamaged) covers and good workmanship gives reliable results in my experience

What if the V*ctra plug leads were used, along with the bracket for the coil pack?

Must admit that the V*ctra ally covers and system looks better, but only the one throttle body. Whether the whole lot would fit and suit the Omega, I don't know.
