My Elite Estate's Future...
« on: 18 October 2010, 18:31:42 »

so, I'm pondering the fate of the Elite estate....

is it worth taking up to Daz, Lee or Pete, sorting all the bits out in one go, and then selling it on?  i'd need to work out how much a fully sorted, fully kitted out, all working ,  99 V reg , 3.0 MFL Elite estate can go for with 150K + on it

or do i move it on as a project car to someone??     do people really still want to do that at this time of year?    ... in which case, what range would be a fair price for it....

just considering my options here really.....   although there's a large part of me that fancies having both fully up to scratch and being beautiful, i really truly cannot justify it....     try as i might....       even given the very reasonable Admiral multi car quote....

one thing i won;t do , is break it myself, or scrap it....   i don;t have the space for it, or the tools.   and it's too damn nice for the scrappy.

it's a toughy....   i'm a bit sentimental about these things really.... but i'm not an eccentric millionaire, so at some point, bullets must be bitten....

any thought chaps..?

Why not post it up in cars for sale as a project and see if it generates any interest?

Suspect to fully do any jobs, you wouldnt see any return on your money

the prefacelift, and 150k will set the price I reckon, and not a high one at that

A 150k prefacelift is never going to fetch much money, sadly.

If you were keeping it, its worth sorting it out.  Trying to put my sensible head on for a mo, its probably not worth doing up to sell, given that its only going to fetch a few hundred quid.

I suspect breaking is the most economical route, though accept you aren't in a position to be doing that.

Max,
I would suggest a figure of circa £350 to £400. I expect someone with the ability and time could have it back to it's former glory. Or, someone may want the 3.0 engine for a project and sell the rest as parts etc.
I think you're best bet is to get some photo's up on here and a decent description and see what happens  :y

Always a tricky one but I'm sure you won't get your money back on any repairs you do...can't see any way you'd do better than £500 when you sell.
Worst thing to do is let it lie around while you think it over, that's what kills cars so I'm the last guy in the world who should be preaching this but try to make your mind up and press on, either sell or spend some money to get it to a standard you're happy with and keep it.

My mint 99cdx 2.5 got £400 with 140k on it two years ago.... :'(

it ain't worth a lot to anyone else, question is what is it worth to your good self? And what faults need fixing....?

From purely a financial point of view, breaking will see best returns I would think...?

How about Omegatoy or Varche? I wonder if either of them would have any interest? :-/

Varache maybe, but Omegatoy does not like the V6, he prefers the 2.5 TD  :y

As people have said its not going to be worth much  :( - Mines now over 150k tad newer but with LPG, again its worth sod all be very lucky to achieve 4 figures on a sale, its just not worth it. So its staying for a considerable time yet  :)

your map making skills are highly under rated Lee......    should work for google  or streetmap / the ordinance survey....

home at 5.20 ....    train delayed at new street, and a short wait for the 1 bus an hour out to our village.

I was wondering whether it was sensible or possible to bring the elite up on thursday, for you to look at and think about....

If Josh had time to do it... (insurance thing)

but it would depend on your day.... as i have to be back in Oxford by 7pm, for a band thing....  and Josh aint free till gone 3....

it seems a shame though, just for the engine.....  as to be fair the rest is pretty good.

just so you know what we're talking about here.....     off the top of my head, and without a full investigative dismantling....

To bring the thing back to full glory.

1) fix exhaust manifold leak.
2) replace left side middle box exhaust section.
3) replace rear bumper
4) possible attention to driver side rear Hub , not sure, just a small noise, under certain conditions,  i think i've heard on a previous car...  requires seriously aggressive tight cornering with window open to be able to hear it....
5) regas air con.
6) the usual body work bits on door tips, and so on. + a touch up on bonnet nose by the ridge line.

AFAIK that's it.

all the electrics work, seats, windows , sunroof,  the full complement of bose, phone ,  sat nav, HID's  , self levellers, and so on....

gear box fine, drive train fine, engine fine, interior very good....

i am STILL so tempted to get it done and argue with the wife for a multi car policy...   but it would be a bitter fight....  having already upped the insurance budget by 75% for the Mv6....  (also got break down cover on it at the same time as the fully comp with ouchy ouchy price rise....  )

besides, i told her that i'd be good now.....  ;-)

Max, I've tried to move things about on Thursday, but unfortunately I won't have time...I'm really sorry.
The only alternative is to go really early Thursday morning, like 3am? I need to be back here for 9am.
