2.2 tuning
« on: 02 November 2010, 19:17:08 »

hi peeps anyone know of any performance enhancements for the 2.2, it's my belief that this is a stroked out 2.0 (taller block?) and whilst everyone who has the 2.0 tune them to some extraordinary amounts i haven't found one person doing anything to a 2.2 any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I think you might be re-inventing the wheel, hard to see much point in tuning the 2.2 when there is easy power all the way up to 3.2 litres of V6.
I doubt there will be much economy advantage of trying to trick up the 2.2 either, and assuming this is a stroked engine the long stroke does work against most tuning mods.
And if you do manage to tune for more power I don't really see a tuned engine suiting the car.

If you're still set on this I think the Zafira GSi used the 2.2 engine so there might be some scope there.

Good luck whatever you go for..

Simplest way to get more power is to fit a rubber crankshaft.

Correct me if im wrong, but I thought the 2.2 was an all-alloy unit as used in Vectra and VX220... the 2.0 is a totally different unit that can date its roots back to the Astra GTEs etc..?

And back to mrgreens original post, theres no tuning on the 2.2, even the VX220 when made into a turbo used the 2.0 block, rather than adapting the 2.2. Strange how life works out.  :o

no i believe the alloy blocks are the z motors but but could be wrong, it's a minefield out there, thanks all for your "helpful" replies!! good to see there is plenty of humourous folk on this forum maybe the original post should be classed as humour as well!! but you know if there's power to be had relatively cheaply i want it!!

Nah its a totally different block to the Veccy & VX220 2.2 block  :y

Very small gains available for the 2.2 Omega, if you want more go, stick a V6 or V8 in!  :D
