RAH! damn car!
« on: 02 November 2010, 15:08:39 »

Having done the water pump and thermostat, it seems that my rad is now buggered!

I cant think of anything else that could be causing the issue?  Over heating but when revving the car / driving it normally the temp goes to normal, but when stopped it hits the roof.

Damn cars!!!  >:(

the first stage comes on, but the second one doesnt.  I know it works because I can bridge the plug and the second stage is in.

The top water return only returns water to the header tank when the engine is rev'd.

Would that not point to the 2nd stage fan switch?

Does the system build up pressure once warm?

how does the radiator look externally?. dont know the age of your motor (unless ive missed it) . seen some radiators with 1/3 of the cooling fins missing. on a hot running mig this might make the difference?

Rad looks fine.

the system builds up alot of pressure when warm.

If I rev it the temp drops to about 92 degrees C.

check the rad when hot to see if there is any cold spots you may get away with a flush

Have you tried flushing the whole system including the block?
Is your oil cooler working as it should?

Yes the whole system has been flushed.  How can I tell if the oil cooler is working properly?

Once again, I *have* replaced the waterpump AND thermostat!!!

You will have to determine why your 2nd stage fan is not coming on, as already suggested possibly fan switch.
Viscous fan should also come on drawing air through the section of the rad where the engine oil flows (oil cooler) there is a feed and return pipe to this from the oil filter housing. The return pipe will be the cooler of the two.

Car doesnt have a viscous fan - its a 3.0 V6 - sorry, I know that my car says its a TD!

The stage 2 doesnt kick in because it doesnt seem to be that hot at the switch itself.

The heater is also pretty cold as well.

When I rev the car the temp drops.
