Focus TDci Cold starting problem .....
« on: 25 November 2010, 08:52:51 »

Hi,

SMBO has an '04 1.8 Focus TDci. The last couple of (cold) days it hasn't started first time.

I tried cycling the glowplug light this morning a total of 6 times before starting - it was no better and would only start on the 2nd crank of the engine.

Any ideas, glowplugs?

Thanks

Could be many things, the fact it catches on the second go hints at not being glowplugs but, test them anyway.

Air in the system gives similar symptoms, its worth checking the pipes for slight leaks and maybe changing the fuel filter.

These also suffer from injector issues (leaking) and cam sensor failures (often causes conk out when driving to!)

There also very susceptable to failing batteries!
