WOW! What a difference!
« on: 22 February 2011, 13:02:17 »

Just finished putting new (genuine GM MV6) springs and shocks on the back of my estate.

Springs, were about an inch different to the identical replacements.
Shocks....what can I say, well you know when you compress a shock, it returns to its original position....well the best one took 6 minutes to uncompress, the worst is totally knackered, and hasnt moved an bit since pushing it down  ;D knackered doesnt start to describe them!

old springs out was easy enough, using the diff dropping method, and the next door neighbour to add a little extra weight to the hub to slot in the new ones.

removing the bottom shock mount took a bit of use of 'the pursuader' to bash the metal bush insert out as they were both seized in.

Totally transformed the car, woolly steering is gone, goes 1/2 a mile straight without a touch of the steering wheel, corners superbly.  Well happy for a mornings work.  Methinks im gonna order the same for the front then get the geometry done properly up at Bolton.

Amazed how bad the old were, and how much better it now is.  :y

Surprise as new suspension components are significantly better than used ones at a decade old.  :P ;) ;)

Good job fella, always nice to have something that rides and handles well.  :y

Ljay has been out in it too, just down the road and back and was also amazed at the difference.

The fact it has in effect been supported on just springs explains the handling  ;D

I think this car is starting to grow on me, still much prefer the old one though.

LOL, I still use/prefer my old Silver Bullet to the newer Elite.  There is a lot to like on the Elite, but it just hasn't got something I can't put my finger on (and I think its more than soggy suspension).

What shocks you go for?

genuine's

LSC Estate ones.

Did the springs as well, as above (LX ident), due to ordering them when I checked the car over back in June and saw one was snapped.....except it wasnt when I went to fit, but figured I may as well put them on anyway as I was doing the shocks.

Glad I did, the overall feel is very good.
after speaking to Mark, I would have gone for the Bilsteins, but when I rang up to cancel my already placed order, they had come in already so was too late.

will also do front shocks and springs to match, then get it set up properly.

Ah, of course, you have already told me that elsewhere. My head is scrambled at the moment, sorry  :-[
