Someone has pranged my MV6 :(
« on: 14 June 2011, 09:55:56 »

I was waiting in traffic last night. As it moved off, chap in front of me selected reverse, instead of first.

By the time I was beeping the horn, I heard an almighty crunch and the sound of smashing glass :(

The car in question was a brand new motability car, so thankfully it's insured. The elderly chap driving was rather dazed.

Damage - front OS headlight washer snapped off. Bumper has been cracked and distorted, and the trim under the headlight isn't sat right. The bumper also isn't sitting flush, where it joins the wing, on the drivers side.

To be honest it looks cosmetic, but thinking about it - I reckon it might be quite an expensive repair!

Thing is, I'll expect it to be repaired to original standards, EG, I'll want a new MV6 bumper, not a standard one!! Is such a thing even made?

And as daft as this sounds, I reckon they might write it off. Thinking about it!  A new bumper, headlight washer, and whatever else is needed, inc spraying, may not be economical?  :-/

Will see what his insurance company have to say!

From very recent experience with the son's car they will very probably write it off! >:(
Still, in his case they just gave him the car back (free) & paid 'Market Value' which allowed him to repair the very minor damage and pay for the Cat. 'C' Vic. test with a nice wad left in his pocket for his trouble! :P
Trouble is, we've been pestered with 'Ambulance Chasers' ever since!!! No wonder car insurance is so bloody expensive  >:( >:( >:(

Right. Called the Royal and Sun Alliance.

Chap has already phoned them and registered the claim - and has admitted liability in full  :y

(I was worried he might try and claim I drove into him, given damage is to the front of mine, and rear of his!)

Car is booked into one of their authorised repairers tomorrow, and I get a car of 'equal class' while it's being done. Wonder what that might be !

I get to meet the assessor in person. Chatting to him on the phone, he didn't seem to know what a 'prodrive' bumper was  ::)

I don't know how bad your bumper is James, but when I had my car pranged it damaged the Irmscher bumper/spoiler on one side and I was worried about the same thing. However, the repair shop were able to successfully repair and respray it. They told me the hardest thing to source was a new MV6 badge that goes on the driver's door!!  :o So you never know, you may be lucky.

hope it gets fixed properly mate, old vauxhalls get writted off so easily these days they are disapearing at an alarming rate.
MV6 could be a future classic!
atleast we got RIGHTwheel drive lol
i had a older car i didnt want written off and after lots of calls my insurance company managed to get the other party to repair it rather then write it off.
you should have the right to repair?

You're not in the wrong so have the right to have it repaired to the same condition as it was pre-impact, as long as the other party's insurance are paying out  ;) ;)

Take heart James.

Was involved in a similar incident a couple of months ago, they admitted full liability, and the car got fixed. Local vx dealer did the repair, total bill was £1700- new bonnet, new bumper, new crash bar. They reused what they were able and job was done in 3 days.

Headlights might push the bill up if needed, but fingers crossed. Don't let them take the car away though. If it is then written off, you'll be better placed to keep it if it is close to hand. :y

Yes... But he's not in the wrong, the other drivers insurers have accepted liability. He doesn't have a contract with them so he can push to have it repaired ;) ;)

Same situation Entwood was in a while back
