Wishbones..................
« on: 08 September 2011, 14:01:54 »

.....Need to replace my ones, which came originally from Markjay (past member). I know there has been a lot of discussion about wishbones recently. However, I would prefer to replace with genuine GM ones. The quote I had from the local stealers was £298 each, anyone know whether the genuine GM ones can be sourced cheaper elsewhere?

What has failed on them?

If it's just the front bush, fit polybushes to the existing wishbones. :y

Jeezus! That seems excessive. Thought about polybushing them Mike? I think that's the route I'm taking.

It used to be advised that Lemforder where oe quality, as they supply vx. Currently allgermanparts seem most competitive at something like £130 to the door. IMO that's still the best option, but then fitting Polly should the front bush fail seems to be a good move.

However some here no longer feel lemforder are worth the money after reporting front bush failure after two years. Don't agree personally but there you go.

Allgermanparts have only really been recommended for the last year or so???, so I don't believe they have supplied any that have failed yet... :-/

unfortunately......

They supplied me some, and had MOT advisory and play after just 1 year!  now poly'd

Ideally would have sent back, but not logistically possible

Wide range of prices for patterns - I think after trade discount VX are about £230 each. If my need changing will go for something around £80 the pair but my car is only doing low mileage now and not used for any long journeys

Having rebushed my genuine GM ones with GM bushes 2.5yrs ago (or is it 3yrs ago?), and they have failed again, I'd be inclined to poly your front bushes, and if necessary, rebush rear wishbone bush with quality (GM) bush.

I've just put cheapos on to get through MOT and kept the originals . DLK pointed out that the bushes were buggered after 106,000 miles.

Intend to Poly the front, GM bush for rear, but what about the balljoint ? Can that be replaced with a GM part for reasonable money ?

Many thanks

Around £30 each for genuine balljoints via andyc, I think, according to here: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1280919863

Is just over a year out of date, so possibly changed a bit.

I think the problem is they get a bit FUBAR when removing the old wishbones, so for refurb purposes both bushes and balljoint required .. :(

Depends how they're attacked when being removed. I've removed wishbones to re-bush without fubar'ing the bottom ball joint &/or it's rubber gaiter. I used a drift down on top of the peg rather than a fork type drift.  :y :y

I didn't remove them, but for the prices quoted may as well replace with VX.

Thanks for your replies and advice.
