Gave one a half arsed wash, first one by me in ~2200 miles from new :-X and the other had some fluid added to the header tank as the coolant appeared to have made a bid for freedom somewhere - not sure where, yet.

New water pump fitted. And It'll be off versy soon, as I was given the wrong o-ring at the dealer (or gave them the wrong part number) so had to get one that fit 'ok' bit of grey sealant and back on. No leaks, and to be honest I reckon it'll be fine for donkeys years to come, but nevertheless want the Vx o-ring on.

Discovered that temporarily returning to my old header tank and cap there's a slight 'hiss' from the cap. Hurray! Touch wood that's the location of my very, very slight coolant loss (we're talking maybe a litre over months and months...) now discovered.

MY freshly cleaned, and silicone-polished front intake is now liberally covered in rusty coolant  ::) cleaned up another front pulley. Slowy but surely there's bits of the engine bay which are having their 20 years of grime removed.

To be honest it was a job I didn't want to do and wasn't in a great mood, and it's not even 'done' yet - as above, it all needs to come off again in the near future, to re-do the seal. Oh well. Squeak gone, coolant weep found, more rubbish, black grit crud now out of the engine, so that can only be good.  :)

How is it wrong? Too big or small a diameter and you won't get it the groove. It should be thicker than the groove is deep, that is how it works. If it seals, it's working. I always use a smear of grease on this sort of seal to ensure it stays in place while fitting the part. I know it shouldn't be necessary, but it's better than having to do the job again.

Oh, it's basically bob-on. But it's just one my old man found kicking around in the garage, and with so much store placed in eg: genuine Vx rocket gaskets, versus the cheap ones that go hard and leak I thought the same would apply to the water pump. Just didn't want to notice my coolant level dropping in 6 months, and trace it to that seal that's gone hard and weeping.  :)

If it ain't broke don't fix it!  ::)  If you do start losing coolant in the near future you'll know where to look first!  :y

Why rush? LPG is cheaper to run, I have the luxury of a large petrol engine, and no silly expensive diesel repairs...

So why complain about having to put 30L of petrol in? 60L in a week, so it's not cheap to run any more. Just delaying what is inevitable.  :)

 ;D ;D ;D ;D

Bet you it is not.... considering KW said his is 12p and TB is no way near that. My last tank had me at almost get sub 9p mile.

Also considering his last tank of gas got him 200 miles, I seriously doubt he is getting any were near mine. I bet you it's more like double mine

I have better things to do than work out my pence per mile.
Just fill it up, when light comes on.

Even as a taxi on petrol, total cost was well below 30ppm... 26ppm iirc,
