Drove the Omega over 30 miles this evening, which is more than it usually gets driven in one go. Its still a lovely thing to drive.
Might have to keep it forever and forget about the CL500.
30 miles ? Barely warmed up.
Drove my omega 400 miles last week, however the last 60 with a miss-fire, but no spanner light.
Autoglass came and fitted a new screen on Saturday and managed to avoid the rain. It then pissed down all day.
Sunday came and so I sprung into action.
Replaced the fuel filter (No change, but it was due - it there a special tool available...I really made a meal of it and ended up with petrol in my eyes) and the plugs with what my local motor factor had in stock (Bosch). It really is a ballache, changing the plugs on a 3.2 V6. Who ever designed the "externals" (pipe hoses harnesses and wires) wants to watch me skimming my knuckles.
Drivers side bank has a small oil leak from the rocker gasket. This was the side I didn't do 2 years ago, on the premise that "if it's not broke, don't fix it" The other side does not have a leak. I cleaned out the breathers 6 weeks ago so I ignored them as I was getting cold in the wind.
The spark plugs were erm past their best. How long should they last? I reckon that 45K and 2.5 years is okay. Perhaps I won't leave it so long next time.
Anyway ..... that cured it.
Or did it? This morning 40 miles into my commute, as I floored it to accelerate from the M62 to the M6, the spanner light came on. I obviously ignored it as the car was running fine, and at 70 mph the instantaneous fuel consumption was fluctuating from 31 to 35 mpg. It went off after 15 miles.
When I got to work I plugged in the code reader. P0170 and P0173 Fuel Trim
I've erased them.
I wonder if they'll come back. I've got a 2 day window in a couple of weeks to do more maintenance. I'm thinking Rocker Gasket, ATF and Filter, another oil change, and top the diff up. It seems to be weeping a little. I will have done another 800 miles by then.
30 miles ? I need to get a job closer to home.
