That looks nice!    But I've always thought the RR Sport is a bit of a Footballer/Hairdresser type thing. 

It's a gorgeous colour .. I spoke to the seller today and didn't get the warm fuzzies; it's been transferred into a company name recently and, despite being listed as a private sale, seller asked if I wanted to part ex anything..

When my mate lived in Houston, he had a new shape RR Sport with the supercharged 3ltr V6 petrol engine and it was a lovely car! 

But... We went camping and struggled to get 2 blokes and stuff, a labrador and her stuff, camping gear, 2 boogie boards, and an ice box in it!    And that was with the back seats down as well...

I've been meaning to post an update as I'm almost exacty2 months and 5000miles into my ownership.

I had that issue at the start, which turned out to be a faulty sensor  coupled with some shockingly poor software error handling. Vee Dub ordered and replaced the part same day and it's not played up since so I assume the fault is was they said.

Overall I'm hugely happy and won't be going back to fossil fuel unless I either end up doing very little driving or have a specialist need (eg lots of towing).

The car is comfortable, very quiet and extremely nippy in traffic and at junctions. (0-40 is the same as the golf GTi dsg) Exciting? Not in the slightest, but then again nor would any car be that I was doing 25k/yr in, I just couldn't afford it.

Public charging is generally good, and 30mins adds about 100miles if I pull in pretty empty, but it's rare that I do it, mostly I'll just plug in for 8-10mins while I have a pee or grab a coffee and that will do me.

As an only car, I'd find the range a bit of an issue I think, once you get to around 250miles and 100kw charging I don't think there will be an issue with running an ev as your only car.

I've got this for 3yrs and I'll probably opt for a Tesla Model 3 or a second hand i-pace once this goes back. 

So, in summary,

Is a 4.2 supercharged V8 enough to pull a RR (a van with windows)?

It weighs a similar amount to the Queen Mary.

The one in the link is 12.6mpg around town, 24 on a run. If you take into account that manufactures figures are usually a tad optimistic........

Last time I borrowed joshwyatt's 4.2SC, I chucked £100 in it (max the pump would allow), drove "briskly" from Oxford to Sereks to pick up a subframe, drove "sedately" back to Brakkers, let that gixer fella give it a go for 5 miles or so, then had to refill again to get it back to Oxford.


Hence I didn't buy a big SC petrol Jag.

The Range Rover in my opinion is the best looking 4x4 on the market , I remember when I purchased my first 4x4 from a specialist dealer near Norwich in 1987 I was looking at the RR and the salesman asked what was my most important requirement I answered reliability he immediately steered me away from the RR & I'm afraid nothing has changed in all that time a real shame as I'd have one in an instant.

That era, you were looking at original RR.  Like any 1970s car, reliability soon fades badly as it gets some age on it (though any left now are probably good, as enthusuasts have sorted all but rust issues.

The P38 and prefacelifted L322 suffer from being BMW crap, both in electrics and the incontinence of the BMW V8.

None of the above would I buy.


However, the facelifted L322 (approx. 2005), which was much more Ford, is miles better, and it was refreshed again around 2009 more to a JLR design. Reliability on these is pretty good, as is the current model.

If I needed a large 4x4, and had somewhere big enough to park it, I'd buy one of these. Reliable, powerful and comfortable.

Don't worry sir Tig, I know almost no one will be interested unless it either leaves me stranded or sets fire to itself 

They're a considered choice, i have half a mind to pick up an early leaf with a cr@p battery in the non-too-distant. Companies are starting to pop up that will upgrade/replace the packs to 40kwh for around the £8k mark.

This could mean you have a full EV, 150mile car, for £15k. Makes for a very cheap commuter car if you run it for 5yrs or so.

I'd be tempted to drop a V8 in it so it becomes a hybrid.
