Did check all that first time around, but will check even more carefully when I reassemble it all again. Cheers.  :y
It may have even have been as simple as water ingress in an electrical connector, so will spray some wd40 around those too, before plugging them back in.
I once had an issue that was down to coolant from the throttle body preheater pipe having dribbled into the throttle body connector while disassembled.

Good to know kevin. Its possible Ive had the same problem. Weather permitting I will put it back together Saturday and spray a bit of wd40 around the connectors while Im at it.
Then keep my fingers crossed as I turn the key.  :y

Decided that I should put some devil juice into the battlebus this morning after going to the Postoffice. Then it decided it should have some oil, so put in just over half a litre to shut it up. Then I went down the Postoffice again.

Put everything back together. Thankfuly there wasnt enough jiuce in the battery to start it, as when it was turning over the was a strange metallic tapping / clicking type of noise from the engine.
Im lost, and cant face pulling it apart again at the moment.  :(

Just realised what was causing the worrying noise. After refitting the aux belt, I should have tightened up the bolts on the water pump , pas pump and crank pulleys.  :-[ ::)
That problem is now solved.
Got it started, still running lumpy the same as before. Took it for a short drive and now got a fault code. P0300. Random multi cylinder misfire.
That means the problem is electrical, yes ?  :-\

We've all done it ::)

Probably. Check the ignition first, as it's easiest.

Ignition as in...... ?
Cant think of anything ignition related which would have been disturbed during the cambelt change.
Throttle potentiometer, MAF, cam sensor and multiram plugs are the only electrical things which get disturbed. Pretty sure they are all plugged in properly, but wont do any harm to check them again.
No trapped cam sensor wire. Checked for that. Might have to check through all the wires in the engine loom. One could have got stretched during the work I suppose.

Just been and had another look. Noticed one of the vac pipes to the bagpipes vac box had come off. Probably knocked it off when tightening the pulley bolts. Plugged it back in and started the engine. Still the same.
Read the codes again and noticed a second code. Cylinder 1 misfire.
Still hoping that means an electrical issue.  :-\

Could just be a coincidence,Albs, but could this be pointing to a dying ignition module on 1/3/5 bank which through no fault of your work has just started to die as that would give the symptoms you have .
Just a thought but mine did the same thing some time ago and was bringing up miss fire code. Fitted new ignition modules and cured it straight away.

Probably not sensible buy new just on a hunch but if you have a spare or can lay your hands on a 2nd hand just to try  could be a good call

Im back in work tomorrow, so it will have to wait until Monday if its dry. Then I will temporarily swap the coil packs over and see of the fault code changes to cylinder 3.
Still got the random multi cylinder one though, not sure if the vac pipe being unplugged could cause that. Wouldnt have thought so, but not certain. Would have thought more likely to be electrical.  :-\

Just cleared the codes and took it for another short drive. Engine light started flashing then stayed on. Still running rough.
Read the codes again and its just cylinder 1 misfire.
This is the same cylinder which has a bit less compression than the others. Im wondering whats been going on in that cylinder.  :-\
Hope to get back on it Monday. Watch this space.  ::)

Could be a loom fault. My misfire was eventually cured by changing the loom. Paul S had a similar problem with his 3.2, again cured by a loom swap, although that took a couple to eventually cure it.

The issue is probably where the primary coil power splits in the cable tray... Found evidence of significant corrosion in the crimped join. Eventually it affects both banks. The wire in question is the 2.5/3mm one (brown iirc). All the other coil wiring runs direct from the ecu.

Will have to have a close look at that. Disturbed when removing plenum for belt change,so its possible.
Not a good time of year for all this, but what can you do ?  ::)

When you find the crimp you'll see why it eventually causes issues.

Bear in mind that it's probably the hottest part of the engine bay, the tape it's wrapped in gets brittle and eventually condensation gets into it. Popping the cap off the cable tray should be enough to see what is going on :y
