If one of the keepers gets smacked, it's those panels you can't get...

I think if I had the space and storage (Like a barn!) i'd park it up and leave it to pick bits off as and when required. The problem with breaking cars for 'useful' parts is that the parts take up more space than the whole car!

The problem with the above theory is if that had been the case there would now be three Omega's, an Alhambra, a Corsa and an IS200 parked up in the barn  ;D

Yes you become a car hoarder, as well as a parts hoarder.

Cleaned the breathers as they hadnt been done for a while. Turned out everything was pretty clean, but better to err on the side of caution than have leaking cam covers.
While I was there I investigated the smallish amount of coolant loss. As expected, a very slight weep from the drain plug, but wasnt convinced this was the only cause.
Whipped off plenum / fanimold and sandwich plate and happy to find it was bone dry under there.
Did however find one end of the upper matrix pipe was damp with coolant, just where it plugs into the matrix. Its one of those odd connectors, and of course I have a spare lower pipe but not the other pipe.
Im wondering if it would be ok to just chop the connector off, push the pipe back on, and secure with a normal hose clip ?
Anyone tried this ?

As long as you can get the clip securely the other side of the retaining crimp ;)

Might give it a go. I suppose I should pul the pipe off and check the (plastic ?) spigot on the matrix isnt cracked, rather than the pipe causing the leak.  :-\

the hoses don't fit directly onto the matrix. Instead, they attach to a bulkhead fitting, which seals to the matrix with another, complicated fixing. All common German engineering, which could have been done without the bulkhead fitting, and clamped with hose clamps with no practical disadvantages.

Is my idea worth a try in your opinion Nick ?
Is the fitting the hose attaches to plastic ? If so I need to be careful with ow much pressure a spring or worm drive clip will put on it.

It's been a while but the pipe that fits into the matrix is metal. A bigger concern is if there's enough straight pipe for the clamp to act on.

Any plastic pipe that you can damage with a worm drive clamp is long overdue replacement. Or you're massively overtightening the clamps - Jubilee suggest that a 30-40mm clamp tightened to between 5.1 and 6.8Nm will hold 100PSI of pressure. 6Nm is barely a tweak with a screwdriver....

Drove it to the top of Pico De Las Nieves and back.

1.2 TSi lump isn't blessed with power, especially with a God awful DSG box behind it. That said, it is almost impressive that after 80,000 miles, it still functioned.

Took the worlds fastest car (a shitbox from Enterprise) to Guildford to fit those cables I made at the weekend.

Somehow, I've come back with a nasty burn on my arm, and no idea how I did that.
