Moved the teardrop caravan from the workshop to my garage at home this morning, fits a treat and towed fine behind the Yeti. Hope it tows as well behind the Austin as off to Santa Pod next weekend.

that's roughly 15-20 miles a minute. So 5 mins to go inside and have a pee, then walk back to it and that's 90 miles. A few more mins in line for a coffee and that's 150. Add that to the 250-300 miles these cars will do to start with and you have got >400miles range with one 10 minute stop.

And this highlights why I ain't ready for EV yet.

I don't want to stop.  I don't need to stop.  And I really don't want to pay a fortune for overpriced crap service station coffee.


The whole concept of EVs is appealing to me apart from the battery/charging shite.

EV good idea for old folk and local driving I suppose but no good for holiday trips with a car full adding weight and lowering range.

As TB says maybe a lot of naff coffee consumed if traveling from say Aberdeen to Newquay with a family of 5

I am still considering Diesel v PHEV, as EV sounds good I couldn't deal with mid journey charging.

My trip to Brum in the week was a 320 mile round trip and cost me about £50 in fuel, which I think is pretty good for a 3ltr/300bhp diesel.    But I had to pay the green nazi bastids £16 to drive about 50 metres over the line and back.   

If I had an EV, there was a bank of chargers in the hotel car park so I could have charged up there and not paid the green nazi bastids anything. 

Don't know what filling it up with electrons would have cost me though.

Depends on your usage pattern I suppose. As I said I'm c 33,500 into ownership and it's the first time I've paid to rapid charge. Taking that specific example, it's 660 miles and 11hrs (longer if not going overnight). You *could* go straight through in a diesel but I would imagine either nappies would be required or the foot wells would be ankle deep in p!ss by the time you arrived. For me, stopping for 20-30mins every 3-4hrs is no particular hardship.

The farthest I'm prepared to drive with the family in a day is Telford - Paris. Which is roughly 3.5hrs one side the channel and 3 the other. So we *will* stop anyway once during each leg, plus a wait at the chunnel. I'm yet to do it in the iX but I'm guessing it won't add more than 20-30 mins onto the journey time, if that.

Which probably equates roughly to the amount of time I save every 2 weeks by not visiting the petrol station.

Yep. Agreed. Especially regarding expensive tasteless coffee.

I suppose evolution of milk float battery technology will mean cars that can travel 600 miles on a full battery are not a lifetime away.

I basically bought the I-Pace for Mrs Opti because it looks good, drives great, but most importantly it was cheap.

As Jimmy says.....250 miles a day is enough for 99% of people 99% of the time. Provided  you have a home charger.

Car is on charge as I type this. Two free hours from Octopussy today (12-2) in addition to a free hour yesterday.

It's now actually clean inside. Also investigated the non functioning fuel gauge with a view to replacing both the sender and the pump units... Got as far as opening the tank, only to find that the actual cause was an unplugged connection 

Still at least I now have a spare pump etc...

Replacement head unit has fixed the non functioning radio, but it needs coding as it can't see the phone or the cd changer.

Bit of a departure from the previous EV themes, but I got a clean MOT this morning.
So I'm chuffed to bits. Only 970 miles since the last one !

Nissan went for salvage... Cousin got about £4,500 for it and got a BYD on lease from work.

It's being added to the fleet as a winter beater/project to try and keep TPC clean and tidy. Also that needs tyres, but want to hold off getting them until I get around to getting some new wheels for it.

Need to name it... especially as it's been a welcome distraction since Koko going
