GTO / Monaro Brakes on OMEGA / CATERA MV6
« on: 24 June 2007, 17:49:42 »

::)... well the install is done here are the results...

I upgraded from the single piston Omega Brakes to the dual piston Pontiac GTO brakes and so far I love them.

The brakes work awesome and they seem like they stop way better then the OEM ones so it was well worth the money (100$):

ok enough talk here are the pictures:

:gears:

OEM GTO Brakes:

After a couple coats of paint:

Here is what it started as:

Here is what it looks like today:

This is the new OPEL GRill with a Germa Plate which has the American numbers on it...

NEW Wing soon to go on (from GTO)

A picture of the new Tires... Kumho Ecsta ASX 245 45 17...

Disc is the same as the GTO and in fact its the same thickness and diameter but the bolt pattern is 5x120 and on the Omega its 5x110 so it will be useless to change to the GTO ones... not to mention they wont fit....

As to the pads you can use 04 GTO pads, 05/06 GTO pads, and Corvette C5 pads they all fit but the 04 have the smalles pad and the C5 has the larges one of the three and the 05-06 have a pad slightly bigger then 04 but smaller then C5 pad...

I was kinda bugged when I found out so I guess now I will buy some C5 pads and replace the OEM ones I got on there to make them work even better...

Pads in the states are between 30$ and 80$ so its not so bad... For you guys you can see if you got Monaros over there and use their parts they are the same in fact the brakes I put on you cant see in the pictures but they were manufactured in AUSTRALIA.... Go figure...

wow what a conversion  :P anyway is there any chance you made a note of any part numbers on the calipers and brackets as i would love to see if i could cross reference them over here with vauxhall and someone like AP i'd love better brakes as i feel its the one thing that lets all omega's down thanks

I didnt even look for the part numbers I noticed that it says they were made in Australia... and it says PBR on em but other then that no luck here...
I think you need to look at anything before 04 or 05 and that should be directly related to the GTO because from what I understand the Monaro is almost identical to the GTO engine, brakes, trans... etc...

BTW here are some new pictures of the car as it stands now...

Wow! Nice Car!

i was looking for brakes upgrade too, does anyone know, will theese GTO brakes directly bolt-on to pre-restyled Omega?
because i see that my calipers kind of different comparing to your old ones...
p.s. i have '98 omega with 296 mm discs...

Update: i checked, they are the same... So the inly question is will the 16 in wheels fit?....

One more question...
Will 16 inch wheels fit your car or these calipers require not less than 17s?

To be honest I think the brakes will bolt up to a pre face lift Omega and I think 16s will fit as well because I have at least 1" Distance to the wheel from the caliper so they will fit, I will bet money on it and also the calipers should bolt up since the hubs and knuckles havent changed between the two years... it was a minor face lift not a full redesign therefore the brakes should be identical...

One problem that I see is if lets say the 2.5 or the smaller engines had different smaller braeks then the 3.0s thats the only thing but the rest should be the same and if they did have smaller brakes then the GTO ones would be even bigger upgrade..

Well the GTO brake lines were exactly like the Catera ones and I think they were the cone shaped ones.... not the spherical ones... I used the GTO lines because they are longer and the Catera ones were too short to reach to the new location on the caliper...  You can use anything longer but nothing shorter then the GTO lines... I think they are 3-4 in longer then the OEM ones that I had on my car...

Thanks! thats all i wanted to know.

before 1997 4 cyl omegas  had smaller brakes than V6 ones. From 1997 all cars have largest aviable 296 mm discs and same calipers with V6.
Here is the pic of my brakes. in fact, i was wrong about that yours are different, they are the same. To be sure, i checked parts catalog :)

I got Zimmermanns when stock disks worn out. Nothing special, but i like it :)

Thanks again for useful info!
Now i know where to get more stopping power when i need it...
