Now, I don't know the reason for your credit card company's refusal but there is a general principal of English law that states that a gambling transaction is not a legally enforceable contract. I am not a lawyer but did study law about 25 years ago and seem to remember that the Gaming Act 1835 confirmed that a gambling 'contract' was not a contract at all and if you lose the bet, under this act you could legally ask for your money to be refunded and there is nothing they could do about it. There is a stated case to back this up but I can't remember the details.

Perhaps this has something to do with their refusal?
