Out of printable DVDs

Sold another band DVD - and I have no printables - just ordered 100 from SVP - costs a couple of quid more than the computer fair but take off the £2 entry not so bad.

Still have around 70 DVDs non printable (bought accidentally)

I am prepared to pay a little extra to use places like svp. Some discs, esp datawrite, seem to fail either during writing, or shortly after.  The Datawrite Titanium I've found OK.  Verbatim work very well in all my writers, inc the troublesome laptop.

I'm with Theboy, would rather pay and extra couple of pence for a branded these days (they are so cheap anyway)

Had too many problems and failures with cheap (unbranded / datawrite etc) disks.

I used to get good results with Ritek G04, G05s are not as good, CMC is variable these days as well.

I never buy the cheapest now

We use two types of printable DVD's

Verbatim standard non gloss photo printable  DVD-R
Verbatim Photo Gloss Printable DVD-R

I think we buy them in for 20p each or there abouts dont ask what we sell them for Total Rip OFF

Alas, simple trap to fall into. Its not just about the dye, but the quality of contruction.  A fantasic dye in a poorly constructed disk will be worse than a naff dye in a well built disk.

I tend to buy DVD+R's (and usually Sony  :-X )

Reason is, ive found Sony DVD players are fussy gits and maybe some others but i seem to have (touch wood) a 100% success rate using these disks.

Stopped using Sony CDs (never tried their DVDs) when I melted one....   ....ruined writer as well (back when CD writers wher £70)  >:(

Look, putting one in the oven at 240 degrees C just cos you hate sony doesn't count..... ;D

It was just before my hatred of Sony started, back when I was pro-Sony. Hence I had Sony CDRs, wouldn't really consider anything else....

I left it burning something, and went and did something else.  Came back a few hours later to find something had gone wrong.  This caused the disk to get hot, and it lifted the 'printed' side of the disk and melted that, just leaving a sticky residue all over inside drive. Knackered the drive as well.

I use Verbatim media for my CD and DVD requirements.  Never let me down yet.  I tend to find that Sony media is not very good.  Used Sony Mini DV to find that the tape chews, CDs that will not write, and DDS + DLT tapes that error.  Need I say more?

Seen the reviews TY dye in cheap discs = poor

The big selling dyes tend to be very variable and SVP has a money back thingy

I have always used Sony video tapes in preference, TDK and Scotch were OK too, but pro grade tapes were rare and ended up buying rather a lot of Pro-X L500s.

Now use Sony MiniDV with no issues.

Some of the Pro-X are 20 years old and still playback fine

I must have just had a bad experience then.  I tend to use Panasonic (Panacronic) now but not entirely happy with them TBH.  Which model of Sony Mini DV media do you use?

Just the ones in orangy wrappers, first video tape we ever had (of any type) was a Sanyo branded one made by Sony
