Hello & Welcome  :y

You will get a better response to your problem in General Help
But basically your car is detecting something wrong, ideally you want to get the fault codes read.
If the light is only on briefly, then goes out normally not something to worry about.
May just be as simple as the petrol you are currently running isnt quite as good as it should be
Or maybe a good service will help, and a does of fuel addative.
Without the codes its hard to advise what the problem really is, as yours is a 2.2 you cant flash them yourself with a paperclip, a proper reader is needed.  One of my cars is also a 2000 2.2 and I've had trouble with generic code readers, but the one known as a cheapo tech2 works ok, costs about £30 off ebay and plugs into a serial port on a reasonably specced pc.

Howdoo, and welcome to OOF.   :y

Check the various maintenance guide and howtoo sections of the forum.  If that little lot does not give most of your answers, post up your query in the help forum as not everyone looks in here, unfortunately....
