Hello all
Just to say a hello - as I've said, I'm new to the forum, although I've owned my 98/R "facelift" 2.5 Tourer for 4 years now.
I purchased it after selling a Disco II (needed some cash for a new house) - and although it was 6 years old by then it had only one previous owner and had only covered 38K - she's just done 50K.
I owned 3 cavaliers in the early 90's and have always found GMs approach to production very interesting. Everything costed to the last penny. The Omega is a good example - you can spot the parts of the car's development and production GM spent wonga on( the ride, the engine/transmission, lights, interior fabrics, alloys, the slippery exterior), and the things they didn't (the waffer thin paint, comprehensive but rather bland dash, the front wishbone bushes, the rather odd deletion of rear door bins except on the higher trim levels, restricted offering of leather interior to all but a few trim levels)
I must say though, 6 billion police drivers are not wrong - they are deservedly respected and they ride beaufifully. The Omega enjoys the accolade of being (at one time) Jeremy Clarkson's favourite chaufeur-driven car....
I've supplimented the standard equipment with a couple of factory options - and a custom-made cat-back stainless steal exhaust system from Mij Exhausts, Birmingham (the Oem system crumbled after 7 years). The other options are GM towbar with detachable swan-neck hitch (I had the swan-neck chromed and the bar I painted in black POR-15 - it looks lovely), and a Bose CCR800 Head unit and Blaupunkt CD - I've fitted the Bose sub-woofer ready for the Amp too).
Anyway - I've yammered on enough. I'm off to scan the ICE electrics forum for fitting that Bose Amp ;o)
Regards
Dave
