New guy about to buy 2.5 V6 estate........!
« on: 16 January 2010, 17:00:52 »

Hi Guys,

I've found a lovely T reg 2.5 V6 estate for gigging - 125k miles and full service history.

I'm about to buy but have started a huuuuuuge debate in my family regarding Omegas and their head gaskets? Is this just an urban myth?

Hello & Welcome  :y

Omega V6 Headgaskets are generally very reliable (with the possible exception of some 3 litre 1998 MV6's for some reason)

HBV's leak often, thats the main coolant loss issue
and cam cover gaskets need doing if they have been badly serviced.

Welcome to OOF Neil :y As Jimbob has already said, headgaskets are very rare. People always confuse an oil cooler failure as head gaskets but if regularly serviced and looked after they will go forever ;)

How do guys!

I thought so, it's my Dad - knows a mechanic friend who said 'Steer clear! They have problems with their HG's!'

I'm sure this one will be fine, if I'm honest!

"Hello" and Welcome  :)

I've had Omegas for 8 years now, this one 2 the other one 6, not had any HG problems and both hauled a "tin tent" most weekends and family holidays to south of France, if you want to strain an engine ... take it to the Tarn Valley with a 1600kg 'van on the back !!!

Not a problem IMHO  :)

Cracking stuff, puts my mind to rest!

I believe there's a 3.0 estate for sale here that look quite tasty!
