There must be ways to take the interest of the local police..Here we solve problems in two ways..

Either with law-lawyers directly or if give some "good help" for the policeman to give interest..

Forgot to add: one very close friend had exactly same problem..Solved in that way..

My estimation is this is a new fashion in fraud..

Dish out his number. I make a very convincing solicitor voice.

Just an idea :  trying to solve the problem with threat-fight will bring bigger problems..

The police must call  both sides and solve the problem with talk..This will scare them enough..

Until illegal threats or worse come into play, its basically a civil dispute and the police are rightly not interested - that's not their job.

However if he is threatening you or your family you should report that to the police specifically, but I don't think they would interpret - 'you've got until Friday , or else'  as a threat unless accompanied by an indication that 'or else' is going to be illegal.   He might mean 'or else I will take you to the small claims court'..

Not a nice situation esp when you have little ones at home when you're not there.

I think the key now is firstly to be firm and refuse to discuss the issue further with this guy explaining that your contract is with the plumber, whom you've already paid. He may well give up if he realises you won't budge.

Secondly, record any further trouble somehow so you've got some evidence if it does take a turn for the worse.

Not nice at all and I am SO glad I do all of my own work!

Tell him straight that you paid the plumber for the work he had completed (important phrase to use) and that he was subcontract labour to the plumber who, has stated that to you that he was paid.

Hi,

I see 2 options here

1: When the lad calls again tell him in no uncertain terms that you are not and will never pay him a single penny as you paid the plumber and his contract is with him. Then say "if you dont like it then go to the police, take me to court or do whatever you want but dont keep boring me ranting over the phone.

2: All us from omegaowners come to your house on the day he says he will turn up , and when you answer the door , i think he would change his mind with over 1500 people behind you!!!! ;D

Matt

i'm more than happy to take up idea number two and even moreso happy to take that rusty padlock off my temper just for this occasion!

I agree if nothing else works perhaps a little "Friendly Persuasion" to leave you and the Family alone. :y

I'm a plumber with 35 years experiance, this sort of thing gives us a bad name  >:( You havn't said how much this low life is demanding but i'm guessing several hundred, it all seems a bit strange & is this bloke a mate of the first plumber trying to sting you for more money? If I were you I'd stand my ground, Have you got any friends with a big  ( fierce) dog you could borrow? It dosen't surprise me the police dont want to know, anyway good luck & I hope it all turns out fine  :y

Again thank you all for your advice and support...

I settled with the plumber today, I simply offered  to pay him half of what he billed us for (which is still more than he should have gotten anyway, but the sums weren’t huge and I wanted to get this sorted rather than have it drag on). He admitted sending the guy to my house last week but said he only asked him to deliver some invoices and nothing more, if the guy was abusive or asking for money then he did so on his accord.

This is a load of rubbish obviously, there is no need to deliver invoices by hand at 9pm, it could have been posted or put through the letter box, but as I decided to settle I told him I wasn’t going to go into this and we just exchanged a cheque in return to him signing a ‘full and final settlement’ document.

Now a new problem emerged, the electrician (a mate of the plumbers BTW) came up with a funny bill, got offended when I told him it was way OTT, so now we are in dispute with him... no idea how I got involved with these type of people  :( I never had anything like it in before... I will report back when I have an update.
But for now many thanks again to all of you.
