xenon headlights

how easy is it to fit xenon headlights ?? as to wireing ?? only looks like there are 3 extra wires to connect ?? anybody know or have done this !! thanks mark  :y

If you mean HIDs, do a search, covered before. Basically, huge job - headlight washers and HID levelling system required as well as headlights/ballast etc.

bummer thought you coulnd just fit head lights with ballast packs and rewire them and away you go !!! :(

The reason you legally need washing system and headlamp levelling are:

HID lights are adversely affected by slightly dirty lens, far more so than Halogen lights. So HIDs with no washing system (or damaged lenses) will often be poorer than halogen anyway.

Due to the intensity of HID type lighting (in affect, similar technology to camera flashes), a system to ensure that they are never dazzlingly high is required. Not only dazzling, but in very extreme cases can cause retinal damage.

From a wiring prespective it should be quite easy (ignoring the self leveling and head light washers).

You would need the connectors from the HID lights to allow it to be plumbed in and from what I can see the level motors from the old lights could be used to replace the self levelling motors.

There are ebay seller selling them for £75 quid now anyway - you'd need two H1 sets if you plan to have xenon dips and main beams.

As for headlamp washers - there is no written law on retro-fitting but on new cars they are required. Having had or had use of several cars with them, the washers frankly do very little and aren't worth the hassle - if you wash your car fairly regularly then it'll do a much better job of keeping your headlamps clean than a diddy pressure jet ever could!

(ps you could always just fit Osram Silverstars at c. £20 for 4, have much better lights, with v. little hassle, and be perfectly legal... it's what I did  ;) )

The retro fit is currently a grey area.

I would disagree about the washer effectiveness with regards to HIDs.  I drive along thinking that the lights are a bit dim, give them a blast of wash, and lights good again.  HID brightness is so badly affected by even the slightest film of dirt, hence the legal requirement (factory fit) for washing system. Without washing system, decent halogens will probably be equal or better once the lenses get a little dirty...

Dont know how long you've got till your MOT markie, but, if you fit HIDs and your alignment is out, I doubt whether they'd be able to adjust them for you and they might just call it a fail :question

Just got a 97 2.5 V6.First one i have had.
New here,the cover on my lights look very dull think they are platicts, could i change them for something better ??
