I have the same fault on my 03 2.2 but no spanner light - just the one above the handbrake warning light claiming faulty emissions.  AA has prepared a guide to cleaning the breathers in the Maintenance section that you could try too.  I don't have part no for the throttle body gasket but it costs about £2 at Vx and the one for the sump is 92067502 at 67p - both were in stock. :o  Carb cleaner from Halfords £4.99.  Also you may try fuel injector cleaner - it never does any harm.  :y

Please post update when you fit the MAF sensor - cos I might need one too but all the guys here keep screaming AIR LEAK so I'll try and find it first.  Good luck.

I had a defo faulty MAF sensor a few years back in my old omega, it is a diesel though. The dealer charged me a small fortune when they wrongly diagnosed injectors as the reason the light kept coming on, the car would then go into limp mode.

When I took it back about an hour later because it was doing the same thing. The technician came out and swapped the MAF sensor in front of my eyes and said, give that a try.

It was like a new car, even beter than before the fault appeared.

Never got money back for the wrongly diagnosed injectors, you will be suprised to hear >:(

Having said all that, I have had since leaking Vac pipe create a similar fault.

Hello again,
Having heeded your warnings, I removed the sensor and checked all joints for air leaks. Everything seemed OK but as a further precaution I gave the sensor a clean with a spray of Wynn's injection cleaner, put it back together carefully and tightened circlips. The warning light didn't come on for two days and I thought I'd cracked it! - but then it came on and has been intermittent since. Back to square one. I had another look at the computer printout from the garage and the notes suggested 'air leaks' even though they told me I needed a new sensor.
The fact that the car is running fine makes me loath to replace the sensor so am inclined to put up with the light coming on intermittently until I can't stand it any longer or the performance is affected. Well, that is the update as promised. Thanks again to everyone for their suggestions and help.

I seem to recall reading that dunking it in a bucket of meths and giving it swirl around does a good job of cleaning it......tho dont go doing that unless someone else confirms it will ok to do that!

Sorry to hear your ongoing problems KenJ.  If its any consolation my emissions light is now a permanent feature on my dash and I can't find any air leaks.  Local garage suggested hooking it up to the MOT emissions machine & spraying various parts of the hoses to look for a spike when the spray mixes with the fuel - but I've not been brave enough yet.

I was just going to ask what AA would use to clean it with.  Carb cleaner label says to remove air filter and with the engine idling, spray short bursts into the air intake.  This would pass over the MAF but is it thorough enough?
