Most of time, I use a funnel coz I'm a chicken ;D

Failing that, shed loads of kitchen roll, much to Mrs TheBoy's frustration...

I suspect its a nasty case of KHMS......Kack Handed Mechanic Syndrome ;)

The small quantity of oil in a plug near to the oil filler cap is a classic miss the cap slightly when filling it symptom....

The shots suggest its not cam cover gasket and the breathers are clear (seem to recall them being cleared out in the past) and hence the small amount around number two which indicates possibly a right handed person (would have the can over the cam cover when pouring).

As for the oil coming from the bore.....if the plugs not a gas tight seal...you would know!

So, my recommendation, clean the plug bore and coil pack up well and check it again on a few thousand miles....

Dont understand how the oil could have got there......if its spillage from filling it with oil.......as i dont change the oil myself....garage does....but they dont do the plugs.....i do.....so if they did spill oil when they changed the oil last......it would have spilt on the ecotech plastic strip and yes could have seeped down but surely would have been trapped in the gulleys as theres a lip around the plugs wells.....plus theres a coil pack sitting on top of the plugs as well....sealing the plugs off.

Its only the plug well nearest the front that was dry of oil, the other 3 had oil in them

Oh and never done the breathers

Earlier when i was putting it all back together before it got dark....i noticed something else....the gearbox casing on rhs of engine is covered in oil.....not dripping off but definately oil staining.....somewhere else it leaking or connected?  :-/

Mark could be right, but I would have expected both the second and third plugs to have oil on them.

Right.....i cleaned the plug wells best i could and popped in new plugs yesterday.

Today I have done 220 miles so had another peer down the plug wells.....must admit none of them any large amount in them......in fact very similar to the pics of them i took yesterday.....altho there is trace of oil on top of the plug wells and in the plug well that was the worse on yesterday you can see it starting to fall down the plug well.

Heres a couple more pics of guess where this oil has come from??  :(

Should point out as its not very clear in the above pic......you see the horizontal ridge under the vertical green line......thats wet oil....not staining.....if you look closely you can just about see it start to run down

As you can see thats the heat shield on the exhaust manifold to the left so top pic is basically above lower pic. If i put my hand round the back of the cam cover i end up with oily fingers  :(

Oh and yes i had noticed someone has snapped a stud of the heat shield...... >:(

Anyway carnt do any harm.....well spose i could break it totally  :-X

Halfrauds for a torque wrench

It's 8NM so you will need to look for one that starts low....

Just back from vx dealer..

cam gasket not in stock....be in tuesday  :(
gasket for sump breather not in stock either....be in tuesday  :(

But they did have black gasket sealent  :)

And nobody noticed my deliberate mistake on how many O rings i needed......dunno where i got 4 from!  ;D
When i asked for 4 'O' rings......fair play to parts guy.....he said theres 10 bolts sir you need 10 O rings! ....which he had in stock to  :)

Im now the owner of a torque wrench  :) Halfords Professional 8-60Nm £50, but tenner off with trade card  :) Actually must be a good one as it looks just like the one AA has  ;)
So no excuse for me guessing how much to tighten stuff now  ::)

Best of luck TD :y

They always seem to have to order the sump breather gasket, so I order them in 2's.
