Oil Change V6 paper filter
« on: 12 March 2007, 17:25:41 »

Hi

Replaced the oil filter on 3L with paper filter element, any one know the correct torque for the lid?

Some pictures of my filter here, same location as the cartridge type, detailed in the great V6 oil change guide.

I just spotted that, obviously before you replied  :)  And have reduced the torque accordingly.

Ahh, I've got one of these beasties on my car. Any pitfalls to look out for when changing it or is it straightforward?

That would be a good move. I can't think why they didn't just use a cartridge filter in the first place like 99.8% of car manufacturers. Last time I saw a paper filter it was on a vintage tractor!

Germans trying to cut down on the bit of metal they have to throw away every oil change, no doubt.

I wouldn't mind if the filters were cheaper but there doesn't seem much price difference.

Easy Peasy. Mine came off using nothing more than a 450mm breaker bar. >:(

Hmm. My car allegedly got a 40,000 mile service when I bought it. Previous to that it was laid up for 18 months so it hadn't been off for quite a while. The area around the oil filter looks remarkably free of any oil spillage, making me wonder if they bothered to change the filter at 40,000. The oil is certainly clean...

Fun and games ahead, methinks.

Being an ex Ford man, having many v6's and Pinto's over the years, I've always fitted canisters to the torque of, good hand tight then a little bit more, i.e. literally by hand, so much so, when I came to do the next oil change they were still hand tight and dry, where's the bloomin' logik in bollokin' 'em um megga tight.. I also think that, oiling the o ring prior to fitting helps too..

Well, I guess since the housing has a hex nut shape on it the average garage gibbon does it up with a wrench as tight as he can!
