« on: 25 March 2007, 14:55:45 »

Hi there,

I am looking at renewing my gearbox oil but I cannot fathom which one I need off the Opie website.

I have a 2.5 petrol auto

The ATF recommended by Mark DTM iirc:

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/performance_lubricants/fuchs.aspx

Fuchs Titan ATF 4000 (Dexron III) 5L £29.99

Fuchs is top-notch German brand used as OE by German car manufacturers.

Better explained on one word - used to use it in bikes

Silkolene.

Now why call your self Fuchs when Silkoline was such a strong brand

Having had an engine on my motorbike rebuilt my Mistral Engineering (a proven engine builders) they advised me to stay well clear of Silkolene....they said if foams too much.

l was told kendall Oil is the best you can get but hard to find in the UK

Castrol gets my money 99% of the time

I just bought a 5 litre container of this stuff:

- £15.99 inc. VAT from Halfrauds with trade card  :)

soooooooo ... what else do I need to buy, I'll be sourcing the parts and getting a local garage to fit it as I don't have a suitable lift or ramps ...

I'm thinking along the lines of:

P/N 96014235 - large sump gasket
P/N 96014234 - small sump gasket
P/N 96015432 - filter assembly

... is there anything else needed? ta  :y

How much was the dextron III without the TC?

I've heard that when replacing the gearbox sump you just need some gasket maker compound which works better than a new gasket, but I cant remember which one...

retail price is £20.99 (from Halfrauds) ... not sure about the gasket maker, I've heard of it being used on the engine sump but not the gearbox ones ...

The Vx gasket set is only around £13 Trade, but Marks DTM says that the gaskets are no good, better to use Loctite liquid gasket instead.

The filter is quite expensive - circa £60 - and if it is not broken then it can be cleaned.

You will also need the drain plug washer - p/n 11023582 (13 Pence...)

OK, thanks for that - is there a Vx P/N for the loctite instant gasket or will the garage need to source it? ta  :y
