v6 multi ram connector
« on: 08 April 2007, 17:25:56 »

Thought I had got multiram plug sorted, but driving home this afternoon eml came on again....after checking it seemed that the multiram connector that I thought I had pushed on had fallen off....as the engine was hot decided to drive home slowly and let it cool down and then try and fit it back again....my question is ?if the car runs fine with it disconnected what is its purpose??and will driving the car with it disconnected have any detrimental effect???just I am no mechanic and as car is off to mechanics on Tuesday for the third set of cam cover gaskets and new covers could I leave it until then as it seems that it might be easier for him to refit it when partially dismanteld

I take it you're talking about the front multi ram connector on the intake pipes at the front of the engine. If so, it will do no harm to leave it until Tuesday. Some omegas hardly ever have them working properly anyway, due to Vx technicians not knowing how to put the vac pipes back where they came from :D

Its the one for the rear multi ram then. Either way, it will be OK to drive, just a bit down on power at the top end.

the plug should have a metal spring to secure it in place, this might have got lost (or maybe the plug has got damaged) - hence why it keeps falling off ... if it's got the spring, when fitting you need to push it home until it clicks into place ...

The spring on my front connector flew off somewhere when I changed the solenoid (after the garage had broken it and GLUED it back together) so now mine has a small dab of bostik holding it in position :-[

All now sorted..been out with torch and found plug was off..as suspected...as engine was now cold made job easier..pushed it in to socket..got a nice "click"sound so expect that was problem from when cam gaskets were last done..started engine and no eml..so all is now well..lets hope cam covers and gaskets sort out oil leak on tuesday

I take it you've had the breathers cleaned out?

The last invoice stated that breathers had been cleaned/gaskets o rings replaced with new/oil and filter changed....in fairness to the guy he thinks the rocker covers could be warped?? so said if i get some new/secondhand ones  I supply new gaskets etc he will do the job again FOC.so will give him the print out from forum on "breather cleaning"and ask that he follows it to the letter..have used him for couple of years and seems realiable and fair...so hay..hoo..fingers crossed
